maybe i being dense lol but exactly what is it... i think i have an idea but would like to know exactly and also why does it happen

Hi Tracy,

dumping is when u have ate sugary food or overloaded your stomach and you have to go to loo. Apparently it can also make you feel very poorly, pain, faintness and you need to lye down. x

dumping can be very different from one person to another. Some dump and some don't.

Personally, if I eat something too high in sugar I get a headache. Sometimes it makes me feel all sweaty and my pulse starts racing. The only thing that works is for me to go and lay down for an hour or to get in the bath and relax.

Some people experience confusion when they dump. Some feel nauseous. Some like me would need to eat a lot of chocolate to dump properly, whereas others would get the same symptoms just from a glass of milk.

It's caused by your food being processed too quickly. All that sugar hits the gut and it can't cope with it.

Best way to avoid it is to stick to low sugar, low fat food and if you're trying a new food, do it at home where you can deal with the results, rather than in your local Harvester where they won't take kindly to you laying on the floor in a foetal position after you've had your tiramasu.

ah i thought as much... i get this, well similar anyway after certain foods due to my IBS, the rushing to the loo that is, the sweats not so much... thanks guys x

From what I have read on here it seems to feel like what you experience with your IBS plus a sugar hypo. It seems to be very different for everyone who does have it but lots of people don't get it at all xxx

Only 1 in 3 suffer from dumping and its ot just sugary foods. Food that is high in fat can also be a trigger.

I have late dumped ( over an hour and a half ) and its the worst feeling in the world. Some foods can be ok one day but not the next.

Symtoms for me are a severe need to go to the loo, then my hearing is affected and I will faint. Cold sweats and shivering. My blood pressure drops through the floor and I become disorientated. I then suffer from griping lower abdominal pain for the next 24 hours.

My surgeon considers me to be one of the lucky ones because I dumped - his theory works along the lines that it'll keep me on the straight and narrow:sigh:

Hope this doesn't upset you but you should be aware of all the facts good and bad.

I do not regret having surgery but everything has and must change post op.

There are no silly questions on here, you need to know as much as possible.

Good luck on your WL journey:):)
