hi all i need your advice, stupidly tonight i tried eating some fish (from the fish shop but batter removed so didnt seem greasy (family thing no other options) so i thought i'd chewed it well but within 5 mins i was feeling really ill and started getting cold sweats and feeling very sick (i'm thinking dumping going on here) now for the last hour i've been retching and bringing up loads of froth but not been sick, then finally i've thrown up everything i've eaten but i noticed it was red (odd i thought as it was cod i ate) then i noticed a blood clot mixed amongst it about the size of a 10p piece i feel fine now after being sick, but i've been feeling off the last couple of days same retching sensation after eating anything thicker than cup a soup, now i'm at the end of the puree stage set by srh and been fine until now... should i contact a gp? srh isn't my local hospital so i'd have to drive 10 miles or so to get there if i had to go to a and e and i dont feel up to driving, please tell me this is just a bump in the road :9529:

It could be a small bone in the fish , which under pre op circumstances if it had scratched your insides you wouldn't have noticed.
Try calling nhs direct for advice hun x

Much as I would like to tell you it is normal, honey, I'm not sure bringing up blood is ever normal. It could be a residual clot left over from the surgery, but don't think you should assume it is. Is there no one to take you to hospital? Best to be safe, especially today as the hospitals will be on skeleton staff over Christmas. Good Luck, lovely xxx :wave_cry:

thanks all i think i'll ring the ward, they'll be better equipped than nhs to get what i'm going on about i think i'll post back later

Yes- best to ring the ward for advice hun.
let us know what they say
Hugs xx

cant get through to the ward so on now to nhs direct...

hi ho hi ho off to A and E i go...

Hope its nothing serious ( was gonna say a wasted journey ) best to be safe tho xx

oh bless ya hun, hope your not there long... please keep us updated.. thinkin of you xx

hi all i was admitted last night following my trip to a and e, for observation literally was just that, oh and them asking me a load of questions as they didn't know much about the op, but i had blood taken and swabs and anything else they could think of,but i got out this morning, i think maybe i just wasn't ready for the fish/ate too fast/didnt chew well enough/whatever but they told me to either go home or be admitted back to srh which as i have a 1year old and its xmas eve i really didnt want to do, so i've been told to 'take it easy' and if i dont feel well to go to a and e in sunderland so if i need to be readmitted it can be to a specialised ward, oh well still feel crappy but at least i'm home

Hun glad they didnt find anything wrong... you haqd your op the same day as me and im still on pureed food for another week.... so please hun... or if youhave been told already that you can have soft foods... make sure is still smooth enough... the fish from the chippy would of been fried even without the batter xxx

Glad to hear you are home hunni , rest ( if you can with a 1 yr old ) & enjoy Xmas xx

So glad you are home in time for Christmas with your baby, Rachael :) please go back if you need to though as it doesn't seem like they actually diagnosed you :( Have a fabulous time tomorrow, honey xxx :D

Rachael do be careful with what you eat, I reckon it was the fried fish that did for you. Check out your diet sheet and follow it otherwise we are going to have to get a bit firm with you on here!
Have a good Christmas.

I dumped on fish from chippy too,the blood was peob from the surgery.Just take it easy and drink your nutrition for a few days. This time next year ou will eat a full chrimbo dinner(just a little one!)Maz x

Was it fresh red blood or did it look darker and partially digested?
If it is fresh blood there could be something amiss so give ward a ring (now c31) if its darker clot could be from the original wound and has just dislodged when you've been sick. Really need to speak to someone from ward/go back to SRH as your local hospital won't have the experience with this type of surgery and will just need to refer you back to SRH.
