Hi

My name is chris. This is the first time I have evere been in a chat room or forum.

I am looking at having a gastic band surgury. Both me and my partner Sue are looking for some help and or advice from people in this situation.

So far We are considering Belgium and a Dr Christiaan De Bruyne.

Is there anyone who has info on this guy or any experiance of having surgury other than the U.K???

Thanks

Chris

Hi and welcome to the site. Have you exhausted the possibilty of getting wls on the NHS? Do you qualify? Do you know what your PCT require for doing wls on the NHS? You would be better off getting the procedure done in the UK if possible for ease of after-care especially if you are going for the band. Good luck.

Thanks Jon

Yes i have tried NHS and the PCT requires 40 + bmi with other med problems dbt high blood preasure etc. The place in Belgium offers aftercare in the uk. My BMI is about 37 and my partners is 34.8. But we have a little boy who is 2.5 years old and wants his dad to play football with him. we dont want to be the fattest parents at the school gate, we will be the oldest anyway as I am 47 and Sue is 42.

You have obviously done your homework! As you can see I'm a bypasser so can't help directly with the band, but I'm sure someone else will be along soon to help. Good luck!

Hi and :welcome: Im a pre-op bypasser so cant help with your queries but we have loads of succesful banders on here and some had ops abroad so someone should be along soon to help :D Good luck to you and your wife :D x

Hi Chrisy

Firstly welcome to this very informative and friendly site.

Dont know much about banding, but I do remember that I think I heard Vannessa Phelps on Big Brother say she had her band done in Belgium with after care in the UK.

Good luck on your journey.

Hi Chris welcome to the site, you will find everyone helpful and supportive, i think there are a few people who have or are having their OP in Brussels. Good luck to you both on your wls journey.

jayne xx

Hi Chris and MrsChris too i expect. I can't help as i'm a bypasser but i just want to wish you all the luck in the world on your journeys. Please hang around and ask all the questions and get all the help you need. A gastric band is not an easy option and you will still need willpower and determination but i'm sure you both know that and will be super at it.

All the best x

welcome to you both and good look in your weightloss surgery. This site is fantastic and supportive you will find lots of new friends.

Hi Chris, There are lots of options available to you but do please be very careful if considering surgery abroad. There are lots of places in the UK where you could get this done. You need to ask lots of questions like how many bariatric procedures has your surgeon done. Is your surgeon a specialist or a general surgeon. How many follow up appointments are offered within your package and what isn't covered. Lots of packages only cover a limtied number of refills.

This is a great site for asking questions and you get a real sense of acceptance here. You will always find someone on the site who literally has been there and done that (in a good way).

Good luck to you both on your weight loss journeys. :)

which provider are you thinking of using when booking?

Hi Chris and welcome. I'm sorry I can't answer your questions either as I'm an NHS bypasser. But welcome anyhow and I'm sure some banders will be along in a while to try to help.

Hi Chris (and the misses) :)
I am going abroad on Sunday to have a gastric sleeve done, i am going with Cosmetic Bliss and they offered a good after care package and the surgeon is (i hear) fab. He is a teacher rather than a student.
Good luck with your journey and i look forward to reading more of your story :) xxx

Hi Chris, welcome to the site. You will probably have read through a number of the forums and gained the info you were after. Best of luck with the ops, my wife Bev is also listed to have the Bypass about 6mths after me. (Mine is mid October) It has been a long journey just to get this far (2yrs nearly through NHS), but hey, it took me 56yrs to build up this mountain of lard! It is a massive commitment & change of lifestyle, but I wish you both well on your journey - Regards, Paul. (& Bev)
