I'm a revision surgery Dave- .. My BMI prob would not have got me funding in a different post code...
They would just have removed my band and that would have been it...

Angelfish I did wonder how they worked the funding but as I was waiting to hear about my date I thought I would ask more questions once I was through the first op... As I'm having band out and the bypass is to follow..

I think their policy is spot on with regards to weight courses etc .. If we could diet and lose weight none of us would put ourselves through major surgery ... I can lose a couple of stone but I can't keep it off ... So a WMC would be just a paper exercise in my case ... And probably is in a big percentage of people seeking help to regain their life through WLS....

If I hadn't of met my lovely fiancé I would not have gone to the hospital with him and found out I could get help with my dodgy band ....

Fate has been kind to me xxx

A colleague of mine was one of this first to have surgery with the team (he had sleeve, then bypass and now they have given him a ring over the bypass) and he cant fault them!

Mr Ahmed even visited him at his home when he was having problems xx

That' doesn't shock me at all aa the whole team there are so warm and don't patronise or make you feel small..

My fiancée got his DS done there after his two awful bands .. And he can't fault them either...

I'm chomping at the bit to get under the knife now xx

We are lucky to have a nice team. :)

I'm chomping now too. Patience is not a virtue I possess anymore, lol. ;)

Have you not had your surgery angel?? I'm on my iPhone so can't see stats ... I'm off to Spain (fiancé has a place in Los alcazares) for 11 days on the 6th of May and then I've got 4 days when I get home before I go in for band removal... So I won't be sat at home tapping my fingers at least lol ...

Then it's Another wait for my bypass... But at least by that stage I will know what my insides looked like after years of vomiting and reflux...

Be great to be able to avoid the slider food too and eat a normal diet again and maybe even lose a bit of weight before surgery...as I seem to have gained most if what I lost back now.. Well 4 stone less now than when I was banded but 5 stone heavier than the lowest weight I got to when my band was working ...

Roll on the 21st may is all I can say xxx

I'm still waiting been told there is a backlog.

Good luck with the band removal. Let me know how you get on xxx

just been refered by my doctor bmi is just over 40 but i have type2 diabetes ,high blood pressure an nafld liver is very enlarged liver have seen surgeon waiting on my pip to sign and follow loose 5/%of my current weight i think being accepted depends on your health issues and family health background too

doctor says to me that i have to get to less than 50 BMI for funding? is he lying to me or is this true?

Most PCT's will find at 35+ BMI plus co-morbidities, or 40+ BMI and no co-morbidities.

Google "bariatric surgery criteria for xxx PCT", where xxx is the name of your PCT.

You should find some useful links.

Good luck!

not sure pct comes into it now dave as all funding is through nhs england

Ask your gp to clarify what he means. He may mean that you have to show you are committed to losing weight before he refers you.... As over 50 BMI you are likely to qualify for consideration for funding xx

Good luck xx

It doesn't come into it, but it's a good way to search for the criteria.

For example, I search with Hillingdon, and it gives me North West London NHS criteria, which covers Hillingdon, Ealing and Hounslow PCT's.

PCT's are still measured by number of referrals and number of surgical procedures performed.

For example, there are very variable referral rates for bariatric surgery from one PCT to another. Hammersmith and Fulham, for example, have a referral rate per 100,000 population that is eight times that for Hillingdon. Demand currently exceeds supply resulting in waiting times of several months.

never knew that my gp surgery said i am their first successful referral and i wouldnt think they do that many as waiting room is always full of slimmer people

I saw my GP Feb/March time this year he referred me to the bariatric physician. I saw her at the beginning of april and she agreed that surgery for me was the best option, so wrote to my GP to say do a referral to the hospital. The referral arrived at the hospital the end of april and I saw the consultant on the 23rd may. At that appointment I also saw the bariatric nurse speacialist and the dietitian and after a hour of sitting there thinking i had to see the physcologist was told she had looked at my notes and she didn't need to see me.

The consultant I saw was great he said he was happy to offer me surgery and I have opted to have the sleeve gastrectomy, he has put me on the waiting kist I have now just got to wait for a date to come through for surgery and also see the aneasthitist and the dietitian who will explain the two week milk diet and the diet after having the sleev done. On the hole I haven#t had to wait to long have now just go to be patient and wait my turn.

Well today I got this email!! GRRRRRRRRRR

Dear Helen

I am sorry but your case is still for discussion in our MDT

Since the new computer system has gone live it has had an impact on our MDT,

I can only apologise for the delay, but I have you for discussion the end of June( no MDT this week and two weeks in June)

If we do have an Ad hoc MDT then I will put your case on that list
