My awesome pre op recipies

HiddenBeauty

Lil Miss Kitty
So on my pre op diet I'm pretty limited to what I can eat. So I'm gonna share the awesome things I've put together that are pre op friendly!

Awesome white fish dish

So I got some frozen cod and popped it on top of a bed of leeks, corgette, sugar snap peas and broccoli and seasoned the steamer water with lemon juice, green tea and capers and a bit of pepper.

The fish came out so moist and flavourful and the veg was lovely and well cooked, still a bit crispy on the sugarsnaps.

Try it!

Sounds lush! Might try this as on day 6 of pre op and I'm sick of salad and jackets at the mo! Do you know if there is a site I could get more recipes from for this diet ??? Thnkyou :))))) x

Thanks for this.

Sorry unrelated to the post but are you American (I can see you live in london now tho) but reading your post with 'awsome' written in it reminded me of an american forum board lol

Lol as a gamer I have a lot of American friends so it probably rubs off on me. I'm actually a Yorkshire girl at heart.

So I want to make my food a little more exciting seeing as it has to be so plain at the moment. I have been looking into bento sculpture and oriental foods.

chinese-tea-eggs.jpg

I found tea eggs a while ago and thought that I would try to adapt it for my diet. I realise now writing it up I missed out one vital step, which was reboiling them after cracking. So this is probably why they didn't turn out right. So tonight, I will try again.

But this is my journey into making my food more eggciting.

First I took some of the beef consomme I'm allowed and boiled it, then added the eggs.

Once the eggs had boiled for just over 5 minutes I took the eggs out on a spoon and gently cracked their shells.

This is where I should have put them back on to roll boil for another 2-3 hours according to the recipe I just found. I'm pretty sure the other one said leave over night (which is what I did) just standing in the water, but try two will have the second boiling. Deshell the eggs and you should have the whites all crackled.

As you can see they did crackle a little bit but not as much as I would like. I'm not sure what the policy on using food colouring is during the pre op but it might be something to look at post op.

I made up my bento box using a few grapes (10) and salad but realised I could only fit one egg in it so I had one for breakfast and the other two are in the fridge. So once they have been eaten I will try this again.

Have you always been an inspired, creative type person? :)

Oh yeah! I'm a digital artist and I love to craft things when I have inspiration/time.

This is my lady gaga inspired display head I made ... trying to see if there is a market for personalised/bespoke display heads for shops etc :)

Nice Chicken and Leak Soup

In my steamer I have a basket with no holes, I think its for rice. I put half a can of consomme into it, along with some onion and a leak and a breast of chicken sliced up. I added some garlic and a hard boiled egg and steamed all that for 30 mins and it made a lovely soup.

Which amused me as they say eat "clear soups and consommes" and she said to do the whole chicken in consomme thing so I made the soup unclear.. *shrugs* go figure

Wow!!! Looks like something you would see in a modern art gallery :D well done :)

And the pre op diets are all so different. Sometimes that feel a bit made up lol

Well done on transferring your inspiration to your pre op diet :) xxx

Thanks hon! That really made me smile :) I do wonder about my art sometimes. I do want to get more into doing sculpture work, I just don't have the room or money to buy the bits. My house is pretty much taken up with stock for the shop lol.

You are just overflowing with creative juices and wanting to channel it. In time, you will have all the room, time and money for it all :)

Hidden Beauty - sorry I can't find your name?!
You can do those eggs in a much easier way, pop your raw eggs into a pan as normal - add 2 tbsp of balsamic vinegar, after 3 mins of boiling, give the eggs a little bash with a teaspoon all round - continue with them up to then normal 10 mins for hard boiled eggs and you will find they come out all pretty marked with brown lines just as yours.
Good Luck.

I will give that a go.. the chinese tea eggs are done quite differently but I will try that. I have strawberry balsamic so I think that would work really well :)

Thanks!

BTW I'm Kitty :)

Cinnamon Fish!

I placed the fish into the steamer bowl with a little water, some apple, cinnamon and a spiced apple tea bag. I put the veg on the steamer tray below and steamed for 30 mins.

The fish didn't absorb as much of the cinnamon as I would think but the apple was nice.

Faux Pho

It’s not exactly Pho. It has no noodles or meat. But it does have fish. That’s why it’s Faux (or fake) Pho. It’s a make do Pho using the ingredients I have.

Note: Please forgive the lyrics to Dick in a Box during this recipe.. I started writing the “steps” and it got in my head.

Step 1. (Cut a hole in a box)
Put your fish (cod in this case) on to steam. Usually takes about 20 mins from frozen.

Step 2. (Put your junk in that box)
Put on some consomme (chicken in this case, use what you like) on to boil. When it’s boiling poach an egg in it.

Step 3. (Make her open the box)
Pull out the egg after a few mins of poaching, pop it in your bowl then add some vegetables (in this case a bit of leak, a cabbage leaf cut up and a couple of sugar snap peas cut up) into the consomme to blanch. By this point your fish will be ready so add that too the bowl and then pour on the veg and consomme.

And that’s the way you do it

Very yummy. Could do with some chillie oil but I don’t think I would be allowed it.

Roasted fish and egg peppers

bakedpeppereggs.jpg

So I found out you could roast eggs. I think the only thing different I would do with this is get bigger peppers.
I used green because I can only have green veg at the moment, but I think it would be nicer with red peppers.

Steam your fish as normal (cod in my case) and hole out the peppers, rinsing out any seeds as they are nasty. While doing this pre heat your oven to 200 degrees C.

When your fish is ready, layer it into the bottom then crack an egg so it sits on the top.

Place them into the oven for about 15-20 mins or until the egg looks ready.

Sprinkle with salt (truffle sea salt in my case) or pepper or whatever you're allowed. and eat :D

Very yummy. The eggs take on a smokey nutty taste. Nice and different on this repetitive diet.

Turkey Burgers

I felt like a change to chicken and fish so I knew that I could also have turkey so bought some turkey mince, used about 100g per burger. Mixed it with a hand full of chopped onion and some worstershire sauce.

Left that in the fridge for a few hours to marinade then made them into pattys and popped them in the oven for 35 mins.

They were very filling.
