Hello I have had my funding accepted by my pct and I have my 1st appointment at the hospital on Monday (9th July).
Can anyone tell me what to expect???
What kind of questions do they ask??
Are they likely to refuse me surgery?
How longs the wait before surgery normally ??

So worried about it :0((!!

My appointment is with Mr Super at birmingham heartland.

Thanks :0))

Hi Ya, hopefully someone will come along tomorrow who is at the same hospital. They all seem to be different, I know my journey doesn't match up with tales from other hospitals.

The only thing I can say pretty much for sure, is if you have funding you have won the big battle, and I doubt you wouldn't get your surgery, unless they found it was too dangerous for any reason like heart complaint. Don't worry too much, everyone you meet is on your side and pro surgery or they wouldn't be doing that job.

Congrats on getting this far.

Aww thanks I was hoping someone would say that!!!!
There is always a niggling thought in the back of my mind saying .....what if??
:)))))))

I know I had the same. My first appointment with the surgeon, anesthetist was fine but the dietitian bit was a disaster I thought she hated me, as she said I had unrealistic expectations but I still got the go ahead and a date.

Keep in there girl, the funding is the hard part these days, they are getting so strict as they are short of money.

Hi there!!! Congrats on your journey thus far!!!! With my surgeons office the first visit was with the dietician. She talked with me about my weight loss goals. I then had to attend two nutrition classes that taught me about life after surgery. My first initial visit was on march 23 and my surgery wasn't scheduled until July 18th of this year. I had a ton of testing they wanted done prior to. Trust me your going to learn so much enjoy the journey :)

I am like the others who have commented, my hospital is different to your's. My journey so far has been 16months and I've got around another 10months to go before surgery.
I wish you luck on your wl journey and if you have any questions or worries, you'll find tons of help and support on here.

My first appointment was basically getting to know the people who would be operating on me and discussions what to expect and whats expected from me. Diet and general medical questions, also wether it would be bypass or banding they would do. the entire meeting was 30 mins and painless :) its the first step to a new future and a new you . follow the rules and your be fine. Good luck with your journey,

As one of the others said, the hospitals all seem to operate differently.

At mine you attend a group education session, first appointment with consultant, appointments with other specialists, follow up appointment with consultant, pre-op appointment.

you will find el - husani a bit abrupt but dont worry he is at least one to tell you as it is not give you any B/s . his team are brilliant and you will probably spend more time speaking to starr than anybody, shes a real good moral booster when you feel uneasy , yes not so far away from you and the pleasures of orpington haha

Hardly slept a wink last night thinking about my appointment!!! I will be a nervous wreak by Monday afternoon!!! Lol
I feel like a naughty school girl going to explain why I went and got so big!!!!!
And am scared they will judge me for it then say no!!!
Fingers crossed all will be ok xx

from what I experienced they left the judging to your peers and local GP. there are more interested in the now and getting you back to a good position, as you will know its costs them less in the end as a slimmer you normally means less NHS bills for them to look after you.
