Hi Everyone!!

This place is amazing you are all so friendly and helpful to each other! I only joined a few minutes ago so here we go!

I have my first appointment at the obesity clinic/with a consultant surgeon tomorrow afternoon. I've been referred for a gastric band and I'm terrified that they are going to turn me down.

I, like most of you here have tried everything. a couple of years ago i went from 19st to 11.5 stone in 5 months with lighterlife's cheaper sister lipotrim. I can't explain how happy i was and how different i felt. then it all piled back on again because i am simply weak and cannot control my portions.

my doctor believes i'm a perfect candidate for a gastric band but i'm just so scared they are going to say no.

Any comments welcome, but i'm really keen on hearing everyone else's stories and particularly timescales from where i am now! i.e. from 1st appointment tomorrow, how long will it be until (ideally) i could have surgery?

thanks guys,

look forward to getting to know you all!!

love,

Sarah xxxx

after the 1st appointment

Hi all.

Ok so had my first appointment yesterday. i met with the doctor who took my medical history, talked about whether i wanted a band or a bypass, and talked me through the next steps. for anyone being referred to Luton and Dunstable it seems the process goes like this:

1st app: see nurse and doctor, nurse will weigh you take bloody pressure etc. doc will talk you through the above.

2nd app: 12 weeks later.
meet the dietician, specialist nurse and psychologist. they will put you on the "milk" diet which sounds like it is 6 pint of milk a day? please correct me anyone!!

3rd app: 3-6 weeks later.
they said you should loose 5% of your weight in 3-6 weeks. then they know you are committed to it and will introduce you to the anaesthetist and surgeon in a few weeks

4th app: 2 weeks later
meet surgeon and anaesthetist, they will book a date for your surgery and must do the milk diet again to shrink the liver.

however, the enormity of what i was planning really hit me while i was there. I'm now considering doing lipotrim again, seeing if i'm just so much more motivated now, and maybe deferring my appointments until i'm sure of what i'm doing. last time i did lipotrim i was very successful but regained the weight - obviously something i need to consider.

what does everyone think?!

Sarah xxx

Surgery is a huge life changing thing, and not something to be taken lightly. If you want to try lipotrim again, then go for it. You've got 12 weeks before you see anyone again, that should give you a good run at LT and an idea of what is right for you.

Hi sarah, as Shell says you've got weeks before your next appointment. Try the lipotrim and see how it goes but don't cancel any appointments untill you know for sure what you want. Good luck in whatever you decide to do. xxGaynorxx

i agree with shel and gaynor x

Sarah I am going through the L&D too Ihad my first appt on the 16th April then had an echo cardiogram on the first May only because of my age, but they said my heart was in A1 shape so that was great news.
I am astonished at all the info you have lol I certainly didnt get told how long it would take between appts or when I would do pre op diets etc
The team I saw though were lovely and they were very helpful
The GP medic I saw said he would be recommending me for a by pass although I went for a band, and that really threw me, was gobsmacked, but he also said although he thought the whole team would recommend a bypass not to feel pressured into having it if I didnt want it, to think about it and research it and then let them know when they saw me at the second appt.
I too have been shellshocked as had read viewed and researched all about the band, but not so much the by pass so here I was doing it all again with the by pass.
It is so hard as obviously those who have a band advocate that, and those who have the by pass are the same with that.
Hard decision to make If you feel you can do better on your own ad have the willpower to do that then thats great, and good luck to you

Love Jay x

Hi Sarah - glad you were given relevant info my the doctor at your appointment. Yes it's not for the faint hearted it really is last chance salon for many of us but when you read the many threads and blogs you know the journey is worth it.

You do what you feel is best for you - yes certainly try lipotrim again and see what that brings for you. If you decide to go for WLS then make sure you do it for the right reason and it's something you truly want.

I think your and incredible lady whatever you do x
