Hi, just letting you all know i went to the Sheffield northern general hospital on the 14th august and it went ok enjoyed the talk on what operation to have, at the end of the seminar i decided to put my name down to see Mr. ackroyed next month hopefully, and set the ball rolling, what sort of questions will he ask ? or do i need to put questions down to ask him?
it’s been a long road to get this far i started trying to lose weight back in 2009 tried weight watchers dieting with weight wise tried loads of xzenical and the other tablets, tried going to gym but ended up with two useless knees.
one of the things I’m trying to get is a new me! eating to a diet following the rules and trying to get my life back.
my bmi is 44.3
obstructive sleep apnia
chronic prostatis and cystitis
degenetive arthritis
kliefelters syndrome
hypogonadism
reactive hypoglycaemia

take a 12 tablets a day can hardly breathe when walking, I’m 54' years old and feel 70' I’m hoping that whatever option i get bypass or sleeve it might cure me wanting operations on my knees, cure the sleep apnia and help me be a fitter guy and help me live longer, any advice help what to say or just support would be nice there were 11 other people there today at ndgh (sheffield) so i might have met you, but good luck with whatever operation you will have.

thanks to all my family for your support and my two twin boys who are 11' and my wife for her support and helping me what seems a long journey to get a operation, also thanks to the people on this wonderfull site.

That's the hardest step done now when you see him he asks you just life style questions on portion control how many times have you dieted what the risks are also tells you about the op from his point
Questions you need to ask is really anything you are unsure about
Like where will it be done and things like that
It just happened I saw mr ackroyd yesterday walking through X-ray he at first did not recognise me was quite shocked but said since October lost over 12 stone more than I thought I would do and he was really pleased
He never judges us or preaches to us treats us all with total respect that's what I like about him
Good luck you must let me know when you go to see him usually Wednesday afternoons at outpatients one that's b floor at huntsman building
Good luck
Mark

hey i was also at the seminar yesterday (14/08/2013)

Mr Acroyd did my op n he also going to be doing a hernia op when my BMI is low enough I was 20st 9lb when had referral. Had bypass November 12 and today down to 14st 6lb not a big a loss as some but a lot more than I ever could have lost on my own

Thanks for posting those links i'm just waiting for my gp to approve my referral to the bariatric team at Walsall manor hospital. It makes very interesting reading and has already answered some of the questions I was wondering about. :)

Hi Mark,
when i was in there yestoday there was only one answer they would have got out of me i wanted the gastric operation or the sleeve, i have now chosen the gastric bypass, im not a big lad i weigh about 23 stones but my weight has gone up over the years and my health as sufferd.
looking forward to the next step, thanks for good luck im sure i won't need it comming this far, im looking forward to putting some questions down on paper and asking him my only fear which is i don't want a caphiter fitted has i want to be able to move arround after my operation, had my knees washed and scraped but was up ready to get out of the hospital.
thanks for the time youve given me and the advice.
