waiting!

Im going to start a diary to help with the waiting. I first asked my GP about WLS 14 months ago. Since then ive been through weight management program called body morph (Nov - Jan) and have carried it on myself since losing 5.5 stone altogether so far.
After body morph ive had 3 wls info sessions and finally an appt with the surgeon on 4th April where I was at last added to the list for a bypass. I was told there would be a wait of about 3 months, so im playing the waiting game now, very impatiently i might add!

My surgery is going to be at Queen Alexandra hospital in Portsmouth :)

Good luck xx

I am just starting on the wls route in Portsmouth aswell.

I did the body morph programme back in 2012 for a total of six months and at the time lost about a stone but had struggled with yoyo weight loss and gain ever since.

Can I ask did

sorry about half a post the computer had a funny five minutes. was going to say can I ask did you see the bariatric physician and then the information session.

I am under the impression that after the seminar there will be the three info sessions that i will have to go to, what do these sessions cover if you don;t mind me asking.

I am waiting for my gp to send the referral to the hospital in Portsmouth and have left a message with the surgery to say that I want to be referred to a particular bariatric surgeon.

I would like to know as much as i can about the process in portsmouth for patients undergoing the wls journey in portsmouth hope to hear from people soon

Thankyou

good luck incasmum time will fly past

Hi Natclaire, I saw the physician on about week 8 of bodymorph. She agreed with my choice of surgery and was pleased with the changes I had made with my diet and eating and the way id responded to the programme. She then wrote to my GP supporting a referral. I was told by bodymorph that a referral couldnt be done until id finished the full 12 weeks with them and also attended the 3 monthly sessions of surgery prep groups but by week 11 of bodymorph i got a letter from my GP saying he had received the physicians report and was happy to refer me. This was at the end of Jan and I got my appointment with the surgeon not long after for 4th April. When I saw Mr Carter at QA id completed bodymorph and 2 out of the 3 required surgery prep groups (ive since done the 3rd too). They cover info such as types of surgery and differences between them, diet after surgery, milk diet, supplement requirements afterwards. If im honest id researched all this myself beforehand, but still found them useful as you can never be too prepared.
Hope this helps, but ask away if you think I can help x

Thanks for that reply incasmum.

I have been looking into the different options for wls and have got information from the bariatric specialist nurse practitioner( was recomended to contact her by the physician as i already work at QA). I have also spoke to friend who works with the bariatric surgeons and she mentioned me to one of them and he said he will keep a eye out for my referral.

Phoned the gp on friday just gone to see if he had the letter but he hadn't I ave left a message saying that i want to be referred to a particular surgeon which you can do. I will also get a copy of the referral and give it to the surgeon myself just incase things get delayed for what ever reason coming from the gp.

I have got to try and not be impatient!!! but i like to know when things are happening

good luck with your journey & time will fly trust me, before you know it your surgery date will arrive! xx

I have finally got my next 2 appointments thru today; i see the dietitian on 17th june and the anesthetist on 18th july. After that, if all goes well the next thing will be the actual op.
By July it will be 18 months since i first went to my gp but almost there hopefully

congrats on the dates things move fast from here on in

After 18 months of different appointments, weight management, prep groups etc etc I saw the anesthetist on Friday and she has given her go ahead too. This was the final hoop to jump before surgery.
Ive been told to ring up next week sometime to be given a date!! woohoooo

Mind you, I have to say that so far in my journey Ive been told many things that were not correct by many different people, so im still anxious.

Anyone had surgery in Portsmouth recently? How long after your anesthetist appt was your actual surgery date?

I cant wait...not quite allowing myself to get excited yet.

Thanks, Mandy x

Ohhhhhhhhh exciting times good luck hunni xx
