Hiya everyone.
Have never been a gym person and as always being very overweight in my life have always been scared to go. What i will look like ect. My husband has been asking me to go with him to the gym only once a week for a while and i kept saying no, but must have had a weak moment said yes i will go with him next week. this scares me a bit as in my mind i am still that 469lb person i was before. I know it will do me good and hopefully encourage my weight loss to carry on but it scares me. Does anyone else feel or felt the same? janey:D

YES I DID IT I WENT TO THE GYM.
Yes i went to the gym had a fantastic workout and drum roll please i actually wore some tracksuit trousers. Now i know some of you will think whats the big deal trousers. well i have never wore a pair of trousers always to self contious. It was the hardest thing i have ever had to do go outside the house in trousers but i did it and even had to walk past a whole male football team in them, i just stuck my head in the air a walked proud. Hi Janey,

My, how far you have come already to have reached a point where you are considering the gym. Please dont be scared. I remember the first time I went to the gym, and I was scared, but honestly there was no need. No one will be looking at you. People are there to get fit, to meet people, to socialise, and some are there to admire themselves in the mirror!

You will probably have an induction and be shown which is the best equipment for you to use, and there is always someone on hand to show you how to set something up if you forget. Also you will have your lovely hubby there for support.

Enjoy it hun, and let us know how it goes.

Jayne, I too was terrified of everyone looking at me, but no one did, as Sam has already mentioned, everyone is too busy concentrating on their own programme. Go for it, you have lost a load of weight already so you won't stick out like a sore thumb like I did when I was 300lbs +!

I too was nervous when I used to go to the gym. But honestly I loved it especially the treadmill. I found that everyone plugged in their earphones and either listened to the tv or music as they did their exercises. You will be fine I started going with hubby and found that I wanted to go more and as I wasn't working full time then I went during the day aswell. I no longer go as it is too expensive but hubby has said after I have had my op he will buy me a treadmill I can use at home.

Hi Jayney

Fear of the unknown is only natural, once you have been the once you will see its like everyone has allready said a mixture of people just getting on with their workout and the odd poser.

The gym should be able to devise a programme for you to get the most out of your visits so before you know it you will be one of the 'just getting on with their workout' peeps.

Good luck x

I am contemplating the Gym, but break out in a cold sweat at the thought of it, I need to get fit so will have to do something & bite the bullet. Good luck with it.

:happy096:Well done that must have been difficult for you but you have done the hardest bit now. You will soon be addicted.

Crikey it must be the week for it as I also went to the gym for the first time this week. Nobody stared at me and I'm actually looking forward to going again so much so that I've bought a new outfit to go in!!

Well done you.

Well done Janey! You must be very proud of yourself-good on yer! xxx
