Message from Lorna's husband, Phil...

Lorna had her op as scheduled on Friday lunchine. By 4, she was back on the ward and starting to recover. I'm sure you won't be surprised to read that she looked really ill when I saw her at 6pm, but I was assured by Miss Heitmann and the nursing team that the op was "textbook stuff" and she was doing very well....considering. Apparently they'd had a minor problem with the spleen during the operation, and accordingly they fitted a drain, but I'm told this is all pretty routine.

By yesterday, she was starting to feel much more human and when I arrived at 3pm for visting hours, she had a bit of colour back in her cheeks and was sitting up in bed. She even took a few steps, with the encouragement of one of the nurses, and some assistance from me

By the time I left at 8, she was very sleepy though, and clearly still very week from the op. She's currently due to be released on Monday, all being well. I'll be running down to Walsall again this evening, and in the meantime, getting the house into some kind of order, ready for her return.

To everyone who has sent texts and posted good luck messages to this thread - thank you so much. I know that all the messages and kind words of encouragement have been a great source of support. We're all missing her here in Leek and I've been fielding numerous calls and messages from friends and family members up here too. Fingers crossed, she'll be back home soon.
