Excess skin following surgery?

Hi,

Anybody willing to be honest about what their skin was like following a 5 or more stone loss??:sigh::sigh:

Hey there

Didn't have surgery but did a VLCD which is rapid weight loss. I lost 5 and a half stone - my skin is what I would describe as a little baggy, maybe a size bigger than I am - no actual hanging skin or skin flaps but a bit loose. Remember people only see what you want them to see ;)

hi, my skin was very loose after 7 stone weight loss, its lost all its elasticity, and the plastic surgeons said there was no way it would go back no matter how much exercise i did, so i had a tum tuck nearly 2 years ago, which has made a big difference to how i feel about myself, my b4 & after t/tuck pics are in the plastic surgery section on the forum if you want to have a look.

When I lost 8 1/2 stone on Lighterlife I had loose skin. I went to the gym everyday but, like Liz says, it loses its elasticity and no amount of exercise tightens it up. I didn't have any flaps or hanging skin though.

I think a lot depends on your starting figure and where you store most of your fat, like me I had a big hanging stomach to start with and I am now over 9 stone down and still have a hanging stomach(luckily I never had man boobs and my chest is alright now a little loose at the sides but thats no problem at all) it is 20 inches smaller but shape wise its the same it still hangs down ok its now all wrinkly and floppy:eek:(not what you wanted to hear I guess)once the elasticity is gone there is nothing you can do skin does not stretch back in and UP ,bearing in mind I had no WLS and I weight trained religiously ,did not go on a crash diet or anything either,my brother on the other hand had a big hard beer belly like he had been pumped up he always looked his skin was ready to burst where as I kind of sagged with the extra fat he lost a lot of weight and everything looked fine(Genetics what a pain in the arse).

No 2 people ever look the same after weight loss so I wouldnt try to use other people to see what you will look like you might be disappointed.

One thing to try to remember most people who lose a lot do not look the same as someone of the same weight who was never fat, expect the worst then anything else is a bonus, all the after pics of weight loss are pretty realistic though there are too many examples for them to be the exceptions or to have done something wrong

I'm 6 stone down so far, and have excess skin on my stomach, arms and thighs. My thighs bother me in bed at night as it can be quite sore.

As soon as I reach a healthy BMI I'll be off to the GP to find out about surgery.

well I was an apple shape before surgery, now Im eight and a half stone down I still have a hanging tummy, nurse thinks I have about one and a half stone there in loose skin so in theory if I had it removed tommorow I would be down to my ideal bmi. I have loose skin at the top of my thighs and would like that to be sorted out as well as my tummy for vanity sake although I have noticed on my stomach that I do suffer from sore spots where my clothes rub me. But to be honest with you I can live with it if I couldnt have any more surgery.

yeah def have excess skin. especially on my tummy, thighs and upper arms. also my boobs are like deflated balloons!!!

i am planning to have surgery around april time to address some of these issues. i do go to the gym regularily but no amount of exercise seems to help.

nhs or private tammy?

The NHS have said theybwon't do it although my GP is still planning to put an application into the PCT. if thats not successful then will have it done privately. my hubbie gets his lump sum for leaving the RAF in april and has said that he will pay for it for me. bless him! x

Blummin NHS!
