Got Funding - What happens next?

Although I have been a member for a while, I have only just got myself to the state where I asked gp for referral.

This was sent off last week, with a back-up letter from respiratory consultant, and today I received a copy of notification from hampshire that funding for bariatric surgery has been agreed.

The Shire in Southampton was mentioned. Can anyone confirm what I can expect to happen next, and a rough time scale? Does anyone else have experience there?

I assume it will be an appt with the specialist, and then put on list for op?

I have tried to find answers on the forum, but there is just so much information on here it's hard!

It seems like a really helpful and active forum, and I am looking forward to taking part.

Hi i have had a couple of appointments with Spire Southampton whilst looking at going private. Don't know exactly what happens next but once you know you're going there you'll see the surgeon, anaethestist, dietician and nurse all on the same day and they'll decide what next. the waiting time depends on your surgeon. I was told at the start of December the earliets date would be end of January. The people there were very nice :)

Thanks for replies.

Been reading diaries, and things really do seem to vary hugely from County to County.

At least I seem to have got over one of the large hurdles by having funding agreed. Now just have to hope that surgeon does not throw up any objections!

I work on my computer from home all day, and have been reading so much on the forum that I have not got very much work done at all - there is just so many interesting threads here. At least I am getting myself prepared...

quick update that may help someone else.

Patience is not a virtue of mine, so I decided to phone the hospital direct and spoke to the surgeons secretary.

They have sent out appt for 13th January to see the team and if I am declared fit for surgery will get a date for a month or two later.

Starting to get quite excited now as I should be done and dusted and lost some weight by the summer :)
