How it's going,,,,Got a date for my surgery!

Just received a phone cal from Guy's and St.Thomas' Trust asking me to confirm that I am attending my appointent next week...needless to say I said Yes !!! Thought for a moment the lovely lady was going to say its all cancelled but, she just wanted me to confirm. Phew !!

Just realised that she rang after normal hours....hope everything is OK with their booking system ! Makes me nervous because of the errors so far !!!!

Hi DJ, every appointment I've had with Guys & Tommy's has been preceded with a call asking if you still intend to turn up. They also ring before your op, and the morning of the op asking/reminding you to turn up!
You have nothing to worry about there.

Good luck with the appointment x

No problem, I know how confusing it all feels sometimes.

I was at the hospital yesterday seeing the dietician, she told me they are in the process of starting up the sort of support groups I've been reading about on here. There will be a group for By-pass and sleeve patients and a different one for banders. I'm not sure if the will mix pre and post op patients - but I imagine that would make good sense. I hope to see you there!!!!!

That would be great, have been looking for a Support Group,Dinda...will keep a close eye on any info around. Thanks.

Went to see GP this morning, took my form for her to fill in about which diets I had tried, ec....have to go back and pick it up next week, just before I go to Guys for the triple appointment. She says she will look into my funding and see if the doctor who referred me (Gastroenterology)has applied, if not,she will. Told her I am really confused as to how this whole sysem works but, she says she has referred a few people already, so am hopeful she will sort it out. Came away feeling a bit more optimistic.
I , originally, asked at my GP surgery to be referred but, was told it wouldn't happen (not by this GP)but, then got an appointment to see Gastro chappie and the rest is history....such a long way round !!!!

I'm no where near you so will be totally different but my list is

Got referred in November
Got funding in November

Went to a group seminar with a specialist bariatric nurse, and a dietition in December

Met the surgeon in January

Had blood tests and sleep apnea test in January

Then nothing till April when I will see the dietition again and see the surgeon again then I will be on an 18 week waiting list for surgery xxx

It's been a bit shambolic, to say the least from this end....seems I saw the surgeons registrar far too soon, hadn't seen anyone before that and when she said I would have my Op within 10 weeks...I came out of St.Thomas' with the sweetest feeling ever but, it didn't last long, once I realised it was all back-to-front ! Ho Hum !

Well, two more days till my Triple appointment at Guy's Hospital. I have to go to my GP Surgery tomorrow to pick up the form the Obesity clinic sent me for my GP to fill in, just hope she has had time to do that, she was also going to find out about my funding status, so I'm expecting a lot tomorrow but, knowing how this all has gone so far, expect to be disappointed.:(

Am really excited though, to be, slowly, moving forward...roll on Friday !!

GP hadn't finished form yesterday (understandable considering the amount of work any GP has to do ) so, I have to go back today and pick it up, as have my triple appointment tomorrow morning at 9am. Trying to not have high expectations of this appointment but, just wish they would say I can have surgery soon :(

Oh no. Phoned doctor to make sure my form for clinic tomorrow was ready and she hasn't been able to fill it in. I can pick it up next tuesday !!!
My triple appt is tomorrow morning and I have to have that info for then!

So, telephoned the Lipid Clinic and explained what has happened and asked if I can still go to appt...lovely lady says to come along and send form after. I will take it by hand and make a photo-copy before hand. Why is this such a mess, all of the time....:(

Well, have a date ! How shocked am I !

Apparently I am ''too light'' for a Gastric sleeve...though I weigh 20st 8lbs??? Saw Dietician, got a real grilling from her, in a nice way but, loads of questions.Told her I was hoping to have a Sleeve, she pointed out pros and cons of Band and Sleeve...she said one man she sees had stretched his Sleeve and had put all the weight back on !!

Saw the Nurse, had bloods done, Urine test and B.P and height and weight.

Then saw the doctor, had a general check-up, he's also, organizing my Sleep Apnoea test .
Said I needn't worry about funding as I come under the same PCT as Guys and St.Thomas' and its an automatic agreement once surgeon decides he will operate, so that was a relief. He told me that he will put my case to the M.D.T. and a date will be set for me in June.

So, after all my fretting and worring, I will be having a Gastric Band instead and will have it in June, so not long now !

Happy? Yes !

Forgot to add that doctor said if Band doesn't work for me then they will try further surgery, as I said I was worried I wouldn't lose weight with a Band. He reassured me that he thought I would do well with it, so feel happy that I am getting nearer getting my life back :)
