Hi everyone,
I am currently attending group sessions, the last one is next week, and I still hav'nt made my mind up about what surgery I want.

Do you all think I should know, or should I leave it for the surgeon to decide for me? I have read at length about all surgerys and still cant make my mind up:rolleyes:

Did any of you feel the same way or is it just me??? I have been told at the group sessions that its my choice on the surgery.

Another thing that is worrying me is most of you have set a goal weight, I dont have one of those niether:( HELP

Hello and welcome.

Let your surgeon decide what's best, they are the experts. That's one less thing to worry about.

My personal goal weight is what I would like. It's not a necessity :)

I would discuss it with your surgeon, i didnt know what was best for me either and he recommended the bypass so i went with that, Also the goal weight I have is just the what the "normal" weight for my height is.

Try not to worry about it all it will al just fall into place.

Good luck xx

Just be honest with the surgoens with your eatting habbits they are the best ones to know which is best. Also i was open minded about my target loss. What they set and what you want can to totally different. I am happy with the way I am and dont want to lose anymore.I set out to be healthier and happy and dont want to be skinny as it just isnt me i look ill.
All the best with what you choose

Hello pauline
I've just had my appointment last week to see the bariatric nurse then the dietician.I was in two minds wether to have band or bypass. When she took my medical history and eating habits, she asked me which surgery did i have in mind.I told her i didn't know wether to have a band or bypass. She said a band would not work for me because of my eating habits, but it was up to me.She also said that when i go to my next appointment, the surgeon would also suggest a bypass. So bypass it is for me.Everybody's different though.Good luck anyway what ever you choose.:)

Thanks everyone, its all so very confusing isnt it? When I first seen the doctor at the hospital he said a bypass would be better for me because of my eating habits. Then I seen the dietician and she said because of the trouble I have with my bones, osteoathuritis it would be better to have a band, I need to have both my knees replaced, they wont do the ops until I have lost my weight.

I also need an op on my spine due to a slipped disc, im in pain constantly, I'm hoping the wls will help me with my mobility after i have the ops required.

I've just had the spinal surgery for a herniated disc, but mind didn't happen until after the surgery. My mobility did improve after the op (I have psoriatic and lupus arthritis and fibromyalgia) but then went downhill after the disc problem.

If you want/need the knee surgery soon then a bypass does tend to bring faster results.

Thank you, those photos are getting old already, I'm a bit slimmer now. My psoriasis started 10 years ago when I was pregnant with my eldest and I hate it.

OMG you look fantastic hun, I too have psorasis over most of my body, I've had it since I was 7yrs old

My husband suffered terribly with Psoriasis all over, including his scalp, until 18 months ago.
He'd had every treatment going, including intensive light therapy, but nothing worked long term. He now has a fortnightly injection called 'Humera' (he has to inject himself), which has completely cleared the psoriasis. His confidence has improved loads now.
Lots of GPs haven't heard of the drug as it's relatively new, but he got his through the specialist skin centre at the hospital.

That's one of the new biologicals isn't it? Unfortunately because of other health problems I can't have them. The only treatment that has ever worked for me was cyclosporine but the side effects are mega so I've basically given up on treating it and just live with it. I don't even see a dermatologist any more.

I didn't think I'd ever get my knees replaced - but it did happen 18mths and a year ago.

I had my op - because the surgeon felt it was best for my eating habits and my super morbid obesity.

Still get terrible back pain - going to ask about it again next time I see a GP - they had given up on it when I was so overweight - hopefully the arthritis I have following an injury will be no worse.

I was booked for a bypass but had the duodenal switch when sent to another surgeon for breaching the 18 weeks - I also think a sleeve would have suited me

Its hard making the decision - be guided by your team
