Farzu I live in Newham. I was referred from Newham to The Royal London (Tower Hamlets) and then to Barts in the city which is also part of the Royal London even though it is not in Tower Hamlets. From Barts I was transferred to the Homerton. The doctors at the Homerton ie Dr Coppack also run clinics in Tower Hamlets at Barts and the London.
If you are still confussed about a referral etc ask your GP if he can make a referral to Simon Coppack at Barts and the London for bariatric Surgery. Maybe your GP is misinforming you as he is worried about where the funding will come from.
If you manage to get an appointment with Mr Coppack or anyone else on the bariatric team they will probably then transfer you to the Homerton as they have a specialist bariatric unit where they sort the funding out for you.
It all takes time, and sometimes it feels like you take 2 steps forward then three steps back.
Ive been referred to the Homerton (Mannur) but I've only just had my initial appointment. I'm wondering about funding as I come under Tower Hamlets PCT. Does the hospital or the GP apply for funding? I'm only just over the BMI (mine is 39) required but have diabetes but still wonder whether they will do it as I seemed on the small side compared to all the other patients in the group.
