Can someone be sent straight onto the surgery list and bypass (excuse the pun lol) all the group meetings, tier diet etc etc

I'd have thought it'd be highly unlikely on the NHS personally. They want to see some sort of commitment from the patient to living a healthy lifestyle rather than treating the surgery as a silver bullet to weight loss with no input from themselves.

I didn't know if they looked at your gp notes and took into account the diets done through them.

Yes, they do. Having had previous diet attempts, including formal groups like WW and Slimming World and having sought GP advice previously is Tier 1 and Tier 2. If you see your GP and he can see you've had a history of dieting and not successfully losing weight he may refer you to Tier 3 - especially if you have any co-morbidities such as Type II Diabetes, sleep apnea etc.

As far as I know I don't have any co-morbidities. Iv got issues like a slipped disc, previous knee ops but not diabetes etc

I doubt it very much.... the groups etc are focussed around preparing you for surgery..... and tbh the waiting time, if spent wisely is a good time to prepare yourself mentally for the enormity of this life changing surgery. I think I've heard somewhere of some with high BMI manage to skip the tiers (not sure exactly) due to co morbs etc but am pretty sure you will have to go thru the process..... once you get your first appointment with Mr Creely you will have a better idea.... don't rush it :) I was really pleased to wait....it gave me so much insight and it certainly prepared my head x xx x

Is it a Mr? there is a lady on the team now.... CEB saw the lady not certain, but thought it was Dugal. If it is She seems to operate differently on the first appointment..... whens your appointment hunni??

CEB if your around maybe you can help us out hun :)

You don't get to skip the tiers it is sped up if you have a bmi over 50 then you only have to do 6 months rather than 12.

Hope that helps :)

awww no that's no fun :( plenty of r&r on order then...get well soon hun.... but you are looking mighty fine :) x x x x x

Thanks hunny. Yes lots of rest. All I've done for the past 5 days is sleep and be in and out of hospital. My fella has been ever so sweet looking after me ... He's definitely earned himself some brownie points xxx

ooohhh he sounds like a keeper :) stay rested sweetheart...hope the hospital visits become less soon...sounds like a nasty accident to require so many visits :( hope they get you sorted out very soon x x x

I've been wondering the same.

I've actually been doing work with professionals already for the past few years. I went to my GP years ago, wasn't really taken seriously or listened to, so I went private for non-surgical intervention/support.
The people I've been working with are not a part of an NHS recognised MDT though.

Guess I shouldn't hold my breath for funding or even fast tracking as my BMI is not nearly high enough for that.

No - the group meetings etc are all part of the course :)
