James Cook Now Has Funding

Just heard James Cook in Middlesbrough has now been approved funding.

Ooh, this would be nearer for me - wonder if I could switch hospitals?

I had a discussion today whilst at james cook and was told this news and was also told to stick with sunderland for now as this would also be nearer for me so who knows ?

It'll probably take some time to get set up logistically speaking. Hopefully not to soon. James cook would be so much easier to get to. Not to mention its easier to park LOL :)

Remember SRH has the best surgeons,

It may help reduce sunderlands waiting lists and that must be a plus all round

If it's any help I have been through a similar thing recently in that my referring hospital used to only offer bands so anyone having a bypass or a sleeve had to be referred to SGH in Tooting.

In July I was chasing my progress and was told that my local hospital was in the process of trying to set up their own lists for the more complex procedures and was waiting to hear if they had got the funding to do it. I asked what would happen if I was put on the list for SGH and then the local hospital was given the funding to expand their procedures, I was told that I MAY be given the option of swapping back to the local hospital but that it wasn't definite.

Then, when I got the letter giving me the outcome of my MDT, I was told that I had been put on the waiting list at my local hospital rather than at SGH. I have since found out that they had only confirmed the funding about a week before I went to MDT so they were able to automatically put me on the list for my local hospital and will probably do the same with people from my area as they come to MDT.

Good luck in getting surgery local to you - if you want to move hospitals but under the same group of surgeons then I would ask them, in writing if necessary, if you can be switched from one list to the other - after all, they can only say yes if you ask them.

I might think about moving as I'm getting nowhere slowly with SHR - haven't seen the Pscyhologist for nearly two months! Last time I saw him, although it was a good session, he said I 'wasn't quite ready' and that's just for the balloon. I'm starting to get really frustrated (feeling left behind!) and am starting to put on some of the weight I lost for the surgeon appointment - and I really don't want to do that.

Hi Nova. How long have you been on with SRH? It's been around 17 months since I was referred by my G.P. and I haven't had my endoscopy yet....

Hi Jema, I was referred by GP June last year and had seminar in Oct, with Dietician in December. Surgeon appointment in May this year - when I saw the registrar and he agreed to the bypass but as I hadn't had results back from sleep aponea or psychologist they decided to put a hold on my case. Still waiting for the psychologist to say that I'm ok - he doesn't think I'm ready for bypass but would consider a balloon - but not yet!

If I hadn't requested to see the pscyhologist then I would more than likely be waiting for endoscopy by now.

I'm just not sure what timetable I'm working to now and that's messing with my dieting cos I'm not being as strict with myself as I was earlier in the year and the weight is starting to come back on.

hahahahaha i thought James Cook was a man! doh! lol

Hi everyone. I was referred by my GP 2 years past June and have had 6 appointments cancelled at SRH during that time! initially after having seen the dietician I waited and waited and finally rang them to see what was happening and their records had me down as not wanting to proceed! I finally had my endoscopy end of July and put on the list. My advice to anyone is to make a nuisance of yourself and ring every week to see where you are on the list. I'm sure the secretary will hate me for that! xxx

well I phoned yesterday lynne and was told i was not on list I blew my stack and told them I was told on 3rd aug i was to be placed on list she then said they were waiting for form from consultant. How long does it take to send form from one to the other as it was my consultant who did my endoscope for gods sake

OMG Jean! I'm worried now. I just assumed everything would be ok having had the endoscopy. I'm going to ring them now. I should know better considering that it has happened to me before when i though the ball was rolling! I'll let you know what they say. :) xxx

Jean and Lynne, you've got me interested to know whats going on now. How does that happen that they have down that you don't want to proceed. I work for the NHS so the paperwork side of it I know can take a while.. Lynne have you rang them yet?? Hope everything goes ok for you both. xx

Hi Heah, i've just tried to ring but no answer! So frustrating! She could be on lunch so i'll try again in a mo, but i'll certainly keep you informed.

ps I too work for the NHS! Are you in a Trust or PCT?

Hi Girls, managed to get through to SRH and they have confirmed put on the list on 21st July. She said the wait was approx 6 months from then but could be sooner, so at least i now have confirmation and can relax!

I hope you all have a speedy journey too. xx

ps Heah - I'm at PCT in Teeside! bit of a drive everyday but the mortgate needs paid :-0 x
