Does anyone know which are the best laxatives to take with a bypass? Sorry for the too much information but I think I've got an impacted stool so need to shift it is senokot okay? It's just it says each tablet contains 15.85mg of lactulose. Glycerin suppositories?....any advice welcome! Lol x

If you are already impacted, go for the suppository every time. It,s too late for the senna to make any difference, you need rid.

Once its sorted, up your fluids and try and take mire veg / fruit.

Ps I have Laxido from the GP but sometimes have to take senna as well. Touch wood have not got as far as impacted but my suppositories are at hand lol. I have had to resort to them before my bypass.

I've done the suppository and it worked! Thank the Lord! LOL!! Will make sure that doesn't happen again! It's the surgery that must have done it as I've not been for a week! Poor hubby, I'm sending him out every 10 mins for things! Thanks for your help x

Quite literally a relief . That first week after surgery a lot of people get constipation. Keep your fluids up.

I have Senokot and Lactulose on repeat prescription. I get regular bouts of constipation and hardened stools since the bypass so I take these two products regularly (but not TOO regularly as to damage my natural bowel movements), I tried sticking to a high fibre diet but that didn't improve things.

If I take nothing then it would usually take me about a week/week and a half to go naturally and the stools will be so hard that it causes great pain.

**If you ever find constipation a regular problem then talk to your GP rather than buying Senokot over the counter because if you need it over a longer term then you'll need to know how to take it safely enough so that it doesn't damage your bowels to the point that you become entirely reliant on them to poop**

I have very very bad problems with constipation , I am
On 4 decussate a day plus 3 movicol a day , and sometimes still need ducolax , it's beginning to be a total pain for me , I drink 2.5 litres of water a day , one glass of fresh orange juice and fruit nothing seems to work , doctors don't seem to care so much , I have a camera test soon and had a barium swallow meal test , hope that gives some answers x
