myself hubby and both children have this- my youngest ( bless her ) has it on both sides of her genes so as an adult will 100% stuggle with weight issues
This Is alittle about it for anyone never hearing about it.
Melanocortin-4-Receptor (MC4R) is the commonest cause of severe weight problem.
We know that the MC4R gene is involved in the same pathway in the brain as leptin, so you often feel hungry all the time. Children and adults are often very tall, and tests of body composition show an increase in bone and muscle mass compared to patients without this gene problem. We have also found that patients with an MC4R problem do not burn up the calories from food as quickly .
Anyhow my question is -any post op people who know/ have this condition , has your op been effective ? from what I gather the resuls are lower then in others and did you find your surgeon was unsure about operating because of the poorer results? Also what would be best surgey type for this problem?
