Can anyone tell me, can you ever take medication in tablet form ever again after being banded?
Never thought to ask before I left hospital.

Think it depends what tablets they are I take some for my arthritis which were really big like horse tablets lol so I have had them changed into the liquid equivalent but all the others are fine xx

Sorry for jumping on board (hope you don't mind) I am interested too because I take a fair few pain killers daily.
I know 2 of my pain killers I could have Fentanyl patch instead of the oral meds I now take, But there are some others too which Im hoping will be ok or maybe there is a liquid alternative  .

Regards x

I have severe bipolar disorder and I have to take 8 tablets per day. I have had no problems with this so far x

Jenni Hi,
You saying you have to take 8 tablets a day makes me feel a little better, I take a few more than that  but like I said one of them I could have the patch which would save two (I take 5 to 6 tabs in morning and the same at night) I also take sena, docusate and movical for constipation when needed and Cyclizine and Ondansetron for anti-emtric when needed.. Im sure I could get some of these changed or I hope so anyway.
I don't want to end up with an ulcer I've seen what a serious ulcer can do; my hubbie had a burst ulcer when he was only 29 yrs and they gave him a 50/50 on the table, so I need to make sure my meds can be dealt with in some way or other. :D.
Hugs xx

Hi Diana, I really hope that Docs can give you liquid equivalents to some of your tablets. One thing I will say is that when I take my night time meds I have to take 4 at once - it fills my tummy up and I feel like I've just had a (gross tasting) meal!
Lots of luck to you

hi this is helpful for me too im epileptic and take epilim chrono which is controled release so no good taking a liquid form im gonna see the doctor tomorrow to see if i could get the 200mg tablets (hopefully smaller) instead of the 500mg ones are tablets hard to take straight after banding or will it be ok ?

Two lots of my meds are 12 hr time release meds but these are the ones I feel I can have the patch for, its a few others I take that I hope I can get help with, if I have to the last resort I wld not take them if I have to be in more pain so be it, I would not be happy about that but Im desperate to have the wls.
xx

Hi Heather, after the op I only took the most vital tablet in the first day. This was lamotrogine which is an anti-epilepsy/mood stabilizing drug and I chose this one as it causes fits if I don't. My other drugs I started taking about a day after that.

Hope this is of some help
