Medication after op?

Hi. I'm interested in the sleeve but I have to take regular medication. I've read that a lot of you mention on going sickness/throwing up for a while after. Has anyone got any experience of having to take medication. Thanks x

Hi Dollybee!

I was sleeved 7weeks ago and only experienced sickness during the first 3 days following surgery. Others do have more frequent sickness for a few weeks it seems so I'm not sure what could be predicted post surgery for everyone. I do believe this can ease up too.

In all honesty, I feel far better than I thought I would have and don't regret the sleeve surgery at all!xx

Hi Dolly,

I was sleeved last month & only suffered sickness the first day, most medication has been swapped for liquid/soluble versions (forceval capsules still make me heave, sposed to bite them & spit the shell out ughhh)

The only regular medication I have from pre op is Pro D capsules which I open up & mix into my weetabix.

I should be nearing te stage of swallowing capsules as before soon though

Hope this helps?

Hi Dolly

I'm 7 weeks post op and threw up everyday without fail for the first 5 week's and am still sick sometimes now depending on what my stomach decides, one day I'm fine with a food, the next day I'm not!

I'm on regular medication - antidepressants and I have been struggling and just this week went to GP and switched to regular release which I'll take twice a day in a half dose rather than slow release full dose once a day and hopefully that will work better for me.

Post op I was supposed to grind them up and mix with liquids but they tasted so horrific I was swallowing from about a week post op. All of the other meds you're prescribed to do with the op like vitamins, blood thinners etc come in liquids or injections for the first few weeks which is very helpful.

Hope this helps

Thanks Hun. I'm on quitiapine and sertraline, I've looked on line and it appears that I may be able to get them in liquid form. Hope so! X

Hi dollybee

I'm not on regular meds but as I had a band revision I had a large incision to remove my port and was sent home with large antibiotics, very large! I was told just to swallow them whole, which it did without any problems
