Mystery Illness - Can anyone help???

Hi all,

I had my bypass nearly a year ago (30/03/09). I've been struck down with excrutiating back and side pain for the past week. Its not muscle pain, but deep inside, I can move around freely, but have difficulty lying down.

Docs cant work out whats wrong with me, I dont think it's anything to do with bypass, but if anyone has any ideas they'd be greatly appreciated!!!

Had bloods and urine tests done, x rays, am waiting for a scan and uroligy appointment! Its a big mystery, am on strong painkillers, every type going and diazepam!

I think I remember reading somewhere that the risk of hernia can increase after a bypass. I wonder if that would be the possible cause. If it is, I'm sure the scan will identify that. Hope it's not though x

Oh hon! How awful. I have no idea but I hope they can find out for you soon.

I dont think it is, as i'm not sore to touch! Docs are baffled! At one stage I thought they didnt believe me!!!

Well that's a bit of a relief really. I hope they find out what it is soon xx

Is it possible that you could have gallstones? When I had them most of my pain was at the sides and round the back. When you have a scan it will identify them if you have them. I can sympathise if you do because I've never felt pain like it. Good luck and hope it's resolved soon.

When I lost a lot of weight a few years ago I too had severe pain that no one could find out about. Then I went to a back specialist who said it could be a shift in my spine and hip joints getting used to carrying less weight. It eased of by gentle exersize and pilates.

I'm thinking gallstones but the gp should have picked this up if this is the case... Never known pain like it, felt like my whole rib cage had collapsed and i was a big chunk of jelly inside. Felt nauseous, was very sick at times and the pain was worse than childbirth..

Hope you get sorted soon xxx

Is it possible it's a kidney stone?

The docs think I had one a few weeks back but if I did I passed it - but I had awful back pain and pain in my side about waist level.

Hope they get it sorted for you soon
