Nails or no Nails

I know this may seam like a daft question, but I do love my acrylic nails and just wanted to know willt they need to come off before i go in for my op ?

I asked a similar question a few weeks ago & the concensus was that, yes they had to go.:( It is so that the surgeons can check your fingers for blood flow or something like that :(:( xx

Tought this might be the case, have pre op on tuesday so might work at getting them off and hardened up before op..

Try Sally Hanson Nail Growth Activator in a turquoise bottle. I don't have acrylic nails (my question was about nail varnish) but do have weak nails as I have an underactive thyroid & this makes my nails grow lovely & long. You can get it on ebay if not available locally. xx :)

I have false nails, but will be soaking them off on Tuesday night and then going for a tidy up and a toe nail polish on Wednesday. You are right though Twinkle, it is so that they can check your blood flow, although not sure why they can't check it on our toes instead of fingers and enable us to keep our vanity.

Save your dosh, Neeta, and don't get your toes nails painted either. I went in with varnish hand and foot as is my norm and got told off and to remove it. Felt like I was back at school!
They check your hands and feet for circulation.

Right well, thanks for that. :wave_cry:

Well I suppose it is for our own good ... :):)

Yes, for our own good, indeed. Still felt like a naughty teenager though. It was sort of a blow to the dignity/ feeling vulnerable thing too- had been wanting to look well turned out whilst unconscious , and having no control over anything, but by the time I got into theatre I was nail varnishless and knickerless lol !!

God... the indignities. :D:D Suppose next to losing your knickers, nail varnish is small potatoes (sorry about the food analogy) lol xx :):)

No one is bothered about your manicure or lady garden! They just want to do your wls.lol Maz x

You gotta hope not but then again it is not really about that ... it's about making yourself feel as good as you can on a day when you are at your most vulnerable ... nothing to stop us having a nice manicure, girls, top & tail lol xx :D

hi, yes i am afraid they will need to come off. due to the fact that whilst in theatre you will need a monitor attatched to your finger which monitors your O2 levels, also theatre staff need to see your fingers are well perfused.
good luck
june

Oh well wont bother having them re done today then may as well soak them of now and be done with it ! Will be straight back on once I'm done and out and about I'v had them for years and only ever taken them of when going into hospital to have kids.. I will miss my nails but it's a small price to pay. May not feel I need them once slim...

Hi Linda - at my pre op I asked if I could keep my acrylic finger and toe nails on for the op and was told yes as they do not affect pulse oximetry measurements of oxygen saturation. I double checked with the anaesthetist on the day of my op ( armed with a gallon of nail varnish remover to soak them off - just in case) and he again said no its fine to leave them on. Xxx
