NHS changes

Wow, I logged on especially to discuss this exact subject:D. I haven't read the white paper but will do so shortly.

My question was - do you think your doctor would have referred you if he was responsible for "buying in" the surgery? I honestly think my doctor would not of (he didn't even want to sign my lighter life form many moons ago). It just so happened that when I went to see my doctor about weight loss surgery options I ended up with a locum who was prepared to listen and talk to me and not try and get me out the door within 5 minutes with a prescription in hand.

Hmmmmm Ive been thinking about this for a few days. I initially thought I would have been gutted as mine wouldnt have referred me. Thinking it over though I think she probably would ....in the end! as she did refer me after I wrote her a letter detailing how my weight affected my life. I think it would be swings and roundabouts overall as some people would be better off and some wouldnt. I know some people have nightmares with their GP's.

i couldnt complain my gp's brill and i know she would of doen all she could for me to have this op x

My GP is brilliant too and I'm sure I would have still got a referral.

These are wonderful changes in my opinion. The NHS and its PCT's were becoming like American HMO's and clerical people were making decisions about referrals instead of medical professionals.
