Psychologist Appointment

Just had a thought. The waiting list to see the psychologist at St Richards is extremely long I believe, so I wondered whether it would be possible to ask my GP if I could see one locally via the GP surgery? Do you think that could be possible or does it HAVE to be the hospital one? Just thought it might save a bit of time. Would welcome any comments. Julie x

Well a psychologist is a psychologist no matter where they perform there psychology , but as u said u may need to be under the one @ st Richards,as thats where your having the op done, but always worth asking ur gp , no harm in asking.....

I have to disagree there BD! Bariatric psychologists are very rare indeed and are extremely useful to see. I was very lucky indeed to be seen by one at Walsall Manor (he is only one of 4/5 in the UK) hence why the waiting lists are so long.

I have not seen a psychologist before and thats why I sed what I did, I didnt intend to mislead anyone or give the wrong info out, I just assumed that a psychologists were all the same, thanks for clearing that up.

I think you will have to see the hospital one, as BR said they are specialists and are looking for specific things connected to people dealing with bariatric surgery

You will need to see a psychologist that not only specialises in eating/obesity but in wls as well, as there are so many factors to take into account. So think you will have to wait and see the specialist. They are as rare as rocking horse sXXX, but hopefully your appointment will come along soon. The psychologists are lovely at St Richards...

I was sent by the consultant at the obese clinic to my local mental health team to get assessed two years ago and they said I was fine to go for the surgery . But when the bariatric team came over from London I had to see her as well and she passed me with flying colours as well . So despite public opinion I can`t be a loony bin . good luck .

bariatric psychologists are a very rare type as brunnettandred says but an invaluable breed i was seen by Mr kenndrick and he knows his onions he travels all over to do his work but there are so few of them about so its just a waiting game i,m afraid for the appointments but worth it
