Any advice ladies (and gents!) how to shower without getting dressings wet please?

Desperate to wash hair and freshen up lol xx thanks x

Hi just have a quick blast! My dressings were waterproof, and came off after about 5 days as the nurse said I didn't need them on when I booked in an appointment to take them off. The scars are tiny and heal in no time.
If u want to keep dry, use batise dry shampoo. It's fab. Can get it everywhere. X

It was tricky. TBH I bought replacement dressings from the chemist as hard as I tried I couldn't avoid getting them damp. And I only kept them on for a few days figuring it was good to let the air get to the incisions.

I have masses of hair and the only way to deal with it was to have a wash and blow dry at the hairdresser the morning after my discharge. I washed it myself a few days later when it was more comfy to bend forward over the bath. Go on, treat yourself - make that appointment for later today. You deserve it. xx

Hi

I had open surgery so my wound was/is about 18 inch long. They took the dressing off day after surgery and encouraged me to shower in the hospital an just be careful. It was quite time consuming but I managed to wash my hair and body but was just very careful not to get shampoo etc on the wound or stand direct under where the pressure would be on my scar. I would advice having someone say in the house with you when you first shower as I did get very weak an tired in there an was nervous of falling.

I was told not to wet them for 7 days. I had waterproof dressings over the opsite ones, but they started peeling around day 5. From then until day 7 I washed my hair over the bath rather than in the shower.
Hope you find a way that works for you Maz!

my port wound got infected and opened so I didn't mnage to shower properly for a good few weeks.

i have really short hair so managed to wash it over the bath and i filled a bath really shallow and washed in that without wetting the dressings.

I showered next morning no issues. Dressings cane off on day 3 when I was discharged.

Well dressings fell off, and I covered the, with posh salon waterproof ones and had an amazing shower this morning.

Nurse said can remove after 5 days.... But I'm scared too lol
Xx

I had a shower day three in hospital and two of my seven waterproof dressings failed. The nurse replaced them and gave me new fresh ones to take home with me. She did say that I have been glued and stapled and the reasons for the dressings was just to stop the staples catching on clothing etc. I get them removed on Friday yaayyy . Going to risk a shower tomorrow and replace any unstuck ones and get another shower on the big removal day :)
