Sick & tired of THIN people telling me not to have WLS

We all know what it feels like to be fat and treated differently. Only someone who has gone thru it will understand. All your thin family and friends mean well, but dont understand what your going thru. Even the people who dont comment on your weight, are sometimes thinking why doesnt she go on a diet. There are very few people who dont have an opinion on people like me (fat people). They do exist tho, nice people without prejudice do exist, Im one of them.

Try not to let them get you down. You are going to do something about it, thats what matters and takes a lot of guts. Congrats on making the decision to get wls. I wish you all the luck for a smooth surgery and speedy recovery. Take care R x
Thanks R, that is exactly why I love this forum, so many kind words from lovely people. You take care too. x

Those people who judge you are stinky:stinkyfeet:
and should be ignored or slapped :copon:!!!!

They are a waste of your energy to think about, you don't have to let them in your head. They can't know how it is for you so what they say is insignificant.

So there...

We here understand what it is like to have to consider surgery to improve/save your life and we all struggled with the choice but ultimately decided that we would rather live a life worth living and surgery was the answer.

Best wishes hun.:p:p:p

Ignore them all, and continue on your positive journey;)That's what I have also told myself to do,as some people just don't understand:(

Thanks guys......and now cuz i can, have a pretty too! lol

Fat people don't whine on about how we can't get a lap strap on a plane to fit so have to ask for the extension.

We don't whine about having to wedge our wider berths into seats in all kinds of places and endure the stares of onlookers, while we worry whether said seat will take our weight and grit our teeth through the pain of the arms digging into our thighs or hips.

We don't whine about having to plan a wider route from a table to the loo in a restaurant or similar in order not to disturb anyone.

We don't whine about paying over the odds for clothes for the larger frame.

We don't whine about being treated like second class citizens or being overlooked in queues.

We don't whine about fellow fat people or what they eat, wear or do.

'Thin' people always seem to have an opinion or whine about anything and everything - including what us fat people should and shouldn't do.

That is so true. I must say, (because you just reminded me) I remember my last experiance on a bus. I don't know if your like me? A thin person trapped in a fat body, because I forget how fat I am, until.....Bish bash bosh whoops I've just took out all the people sitting on the outside seats on the bus as I've squeezed past! lol I can LOL about it now, but at the time its mortifying and all I wanted to do was crawl up my rather large behind.

I couldnt of said it better myself. I totally agree. well said. Take care R x

Whatever their motivation it is your decision and yours alone. I don't think that until you are in the situation you have any real idea of just how desperate a person can be to lose weight. Also people sometimes don't realise just how many times you have tried to lose it, and how demoralised and hopeless you feel.

I think your decision to go for WLS is a brave one, it certainly isn't an easy way to lose weight, and I wish you all the best. I'm really glad that your husband is with you, cos at the end of the day that is what really counts x

I think this should read some thin people as its only a minority of them who are ignorant to the plight of the fat person.
I have several slim friends who have to work hard to keep their weight down but no one more than my sister. she is a size 8/10 but due to mobility problems she cannot afford to take her eye off her weight as the moment it creeps up her mobility is seriously effected. The one thing that effects this more than anything is that she is a coeliac but allergic to both wheat and gluten. All the specialist foods are really high in fat.

May be i am one of a minority as i havent come accross any negativity regarding my surgery and because i have been big all my life dont seem to notice the negativity from people unless its just the people i assosiate with.

saying that its not that i dont have all the hangups about my size that other people have i suppose its how we deal with it.

Maybe 2009 should be about educating the ignorant and being positive about our futures

Thankyou Tara66, It certainly is not a decision that can be taken lightly. It has taken me many years of feeling miserable about my extra weight. Thankfully for me that is my only issue in life, everything else is brill. Some people have so many more issues to contend with and that does also make me very thankful, that I don't.

There will always be horrible, ignorant parasites in this world fat or thin, thank goodness for the rest of us ay! also you are very lucky hope'case that you haven't endured any negativaty in your life, a lot of us have unfortunatly, not been so lucky (and in my experience they are always thinnies). Hey I suppose its a good thing that we have broad shoulders.....not for long though! lol
As for your sister, i'm sorry to hear that she has those problems, it doe's go to show that thin people have their own set of problems, which is unfortunate.
However, this is all about us, overweight people and our journey's towards becoming thinner not thinnies (and I don't for one minute mean your sister), cause I would never, even when I'm a thinner person pass judgement on fat people or any other who may be less fortunate than myself. x
