Hi does anyone know if when you have bypass they actually take the unused stomouch away? or just leave it in unconnected?

Thanks
:D

Hi chucky,

it stays in and is still connected to the intestines, so that it allows the stomach acids and biles to drain down. This is what forms the Y shape alongside the new pouch and intestines.

It stays in - the RNY is reversible (although rarely done as it can be so tricky). Everything stays in the body.

thanks guys i thought this was case my brother who had bypass last year said thay take it out i told him i knew more about it than he did i have had lots of time to do research. He was done and dusted in 6 months, He lives in Lancashire.

Its not a silly question really - all sorts of of things pop into your head. I must admit I had already asked the Oracle (aka my husband!) what happened to the excess stomach that is cut away. For some reason I thought it was taken out of the body and disposed of. I then thought how on earth do you get bits of your stomach through small keyhole incisions!!! Oh well.......

I asked about this once - for the sleeve they do remove the stomach through the keyhole incisions. They usually place a little bag inside the general area and chop the stomach up into little bits inside the bag and then pull the bag out. (well, you asked!).

But the stomach stays in for the RNY as the procedure is reversable...
