confirming my admission at 3pm on thurs 24th nov, was expecting to get a bit more info such as milk diet etc but just got the letter and a one liner in it saying that its subject to passing everything at pre op assessment and that appt would come through separately now i've been on the milk diet that mazbrad kindly emailed me since monday but it is a little concerning considering i would be due to start it early next week that nothing's been sent.. anyone know if they work weekends i may have to have a chat!

great news about the letter Rach, but you're right, there should have been more info about the pre op diet, hopefully you will get the appt very soon :) xxx

Hi when they confirmed my op date over the telephone, they advised I would get the letter to confirm date through post. then the nurse would ring me directly to discuss pre-op diet and also to invite me along to the pre-op assessment.

They may work weekends as am sure someone people have had the ops over the weekend.

Maybe you should ring Kim directly she may be there.

Hope you get sorted and good luck with op xx

Hi, I remember other people not getting the diet in time to start and having to get it over phone! I think they're really busy getting loads of appointments out at the moment so its probably coming but at least you already have it. No harm in giving them a ring though x

Hi Rachael, dont worry. if you are doing the milk diet (only if you don't have type 2 diabetes controlled by diet that is!) the diet sheet Mazbrad sent you if the same as the one in the booklet that I got sent last week

2-3 pints semi or skimmed milk
2 diet yogs natural or fruit flavoured
3-4 portions of fruit (you are allowed all varieties but try to include a banana, orange or grapes each day)
sugar free jelly (optional)
one bowl of veg soup - preferably home made. it should not contain potatoes or pulses eg lentils

drinks
water, tea, coffee and low cal drinks or squashes are allowed freely. sweeteners are allowed

1 small glass of fruit juice (orange, pineapple or tomato)

no other foods should be eaten alcohol is not allowed

... there you go!! :wave_cry:

happy milk diet! I start tomorrow so last supper tonight!

if you need the diabetic diet let me know and I'll type up!

see you on the 24th!
xxx:rolleyes:

I was confirmed for my op 12 days before op (which is 20/11). I got my pre op letter on Thurs for the appoint Fri (yesterday). I have still not received my letter confirming appoint with pre op diet and I only have week today for op.

Thanks to Lynne08 who gave me a copy I was able to start it on time :) thanks Hun xxx

By the way I'm on day three and its not to bad. A bit of head hunger and missed my sausage buttie this morning. The milk is surprisingly filling. Hey ho it's for the greater good :)

Is it just a lottery at Sunderland as to when you get picked for your pre-op and OP. Just noticed that people who had their endoscopy either the same day or after me have received their letters and yet when I rang Sunderland two weeks ago and was told I had just been put on the list this is despite being told at the Endoscopy I had been listed.

Sorry to sound off but just had one of those days x

Don't worry I really do get where you are coming from. It will be 19 months by time I get my op and some people haven't even waited no where near that length of time.

When did you have your endo and when did you start your journey.

I know they are looking for people over Xmas, ring them on Monday explain you know people with op dates who haven't waited as long as you and get them to give you a date x

for most of my life I have struggled with my weight, but in September 2009 I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabeties. Luckily I am diet controlled but I was reffered from a specialist weight management team in January 2010 to Sunderland with the seminar in September 2010. I had my appointment with the Nurse January 2011, then with the Surgeon June 2011, finally Endoscopy 2nd September 2011.
I have been so up beat about it all just thinking my time will come when it comes, but for the last couple of days I have seen some of my weight creep back on and I am worried so naturally I am feeling sorry for myself, then I see people going before me and I JUST MOAN When really I should just suck it up and wait my turn !!! thanks for listening Pauline xx

Your not moaning your upset. They lost my notes at Sunderland so all my appointments were delayed.

I edited my post sorry I've changed some stuff in it as didn't want to upset anyone, I would never begrudge anyone the op as we all work so hard but it is heartbreaking when others go before you and its through no fault of there own Sunderland RH is messed up.

Look at my previous post again and ring them x

It was fine. The nurse (Dawn Hunter) was fantastic. Apparently I should have had a course of antibiotics after my Endo as I have bacteria in stomach. She bent over backwards to get me a prescription before the pharmacy closed.
Just done ECG and some blood samples and swabs other than that. It really wasn't bad :)

I was on list for bypass by surgeons but really didn't want that. They told me to research it and i did. I rang them last week and told them. Had to get ok from surgeon then they gave me a date quite quick. Not sure if it was a cancellation and I hit lucky calling them.

I rang last week and the lady I spoke to said I am on the list as of the 23rd Oct, I will ring them again on Monday , as I said earlier I think I am just worried because I know I have put on 2kg since the encoscopy on the 2nd Sept and I just dont want to be sent away because ive messed up Pauline xxx

I think your onto something here, I rang them and they told me that's it's shorter WL for sleeves. All I can think of is that as sleeves are pretty new and wasn't even offered when I started they want to emmmm how to put this am lost for the righ word so I'll just say practise them, bands and bypass has been around for a while. Not every op will work for everyone so as surgeons they have to learn knew techniques too.

Glad to her ur pre op went so well, at the endo I was told if I had that infection in my stomach my own GP would contact me. He hasn't lol maybe I should give him a ring just to check.

Not long now for you, I really hope all goes well on the day for you. I'll be asking for some tips on what to take to hospital lol x

Practise oh that sounds ominous lol
My surgeon is Mr Schroeder and apparently he has done loads according to the nurse :)

I was gutted though the receptionist didn't tell me that's what happened I didn't find out till I went to see the surgeon to check I hit my target.

I hadn't heard for months so rang and gave them my details and they said oh we can see u will be getting a letter in the next few days to confirm, which I did so I went along to the appointment to check I hit my target.

I didn't see a surgeon I saw Ali instead he was over the moon that I had lost 17lbs and told me that as my notes had been lost for months that they would discuss me at the next mdt meeting - I was gob smacked.

X
