The problem of water??

My main concern after my op is getting in enough water... I've always drunk loads, usually 4-5 litres a day but I'm such a guzzler!! I can neck 750 mls in one sitting & am worried about how to retrain myself to be a sipper.

Any top tips on how to do this post op pls...

Thank you. xxx

Hi
i was getting myself ready to sip rather than guzzle, but i have found i dont have to sip as much as i thought, i can have a good 4 or 5 guzzles of water or whatever without any discomfort, i do try and sip though when i am not feeling thirsty just to keep up me water intake. I think like always it depends on the individual

I never really had to sip either was always able to drink fairly "normally". I am not a water drinker and have always stuck to nas juice again without any problem. If you are a good water drinker then that is ideal for following your post op rules. You may not manage to drink the amount initially that you did pre op but that will improve as time goes on. Just always remember the golden rule of not drinking at least half an hour either side of eating xx

Ditzee take it from me no retraining will be needed. The first time you guzzle you will know about it. Just drink like you do your cuppa in the morning. It hurts to gulp drink down. Immediately post op i could only manage half a mug of tea and that took so long it was nearly cold....

Don't worry, you'll be retrained within a day :) xx

I too was a big water drinker.....post-op I can hardly bear the stuff!

Top Tips?
1) use a toddler feeder beaker (69p from Sainsburys!): it flows nice and slow and keeps the dust out of a drink standing a long time
2) a slice of lemon in the water makes it taste so much nicer
3) keep at it, it gets better
4) well diluted apple juice is nice!

Thanks guys.... its funny trying to imagine how its going to be post op, especially now being on my pre op & I'm drinking for Engerland! :D

To be honest, I found that my restriction forced me to sip rather than guzzle!

I find water easier to get down if it isn't freezing cold. Water straight from the fridge or cooler seemed to make my pouch spasm, which was uncomfortable.

This is something that is really concerning me, as i just don't drink been in hospital several times because of this if i drink 2 drinks a day its alot for me, this is one of the reason i have choosen to do the liquid diet for my pre op to try & train myself to drink more :sigh:

In the very early days I found it impossible to guzzle and like Julie could only manage half a mug of coffee or a few sips of water. I dont remember when this changed but I'd say that it was very early on, and I could probably neck a pint of squash now with no ill effects.

I've always given myself a certain time to have drunk a litre by... for example

1000, 1200, 1500, 1900 so that gives me 4 litres in a day... also the reason I guzzle sometimes when I think I've not had much!!

Good luck with getting that water down you. xx

Thats good to know... I just can't imagine not being able to guzzle & like Julie said I'll learn preyy quick I guess. x
