Prawns pittas rule!!!
As they didnt phone me back!

What info shall i go with then to fight my case of getting a gastric band!?

You need to tell them of your struggle with your weight. Such as the diets you have tried. Also the health related issues you have, such as sleep apnea, diabetes, aching joints, bad back etc. Good luck with it all Im sure you will persuade them. Fingers crossed for a smooth referral and wls journey. Take care R x

Im hoping so too but i think without having diabetes and sleep problems i bet I wont get a referral.

Im keeping fingers crossed for myself!

Good luck Sara

take your list, tell them you are serious, tell them being over weight is destroying your life in every aspect both physically and mentally, tell them you know its not a magic cure and you are willing to work with wls 100% to achieve what you have craved for, for many years, tell them if you cant loose the weight and keep it off long term after all the diets you have tried previously in your life then wls is your last chance to turn things around, tell them it will cost the nhs more in the long run for the weight related illnesses that come as you get older, than it will cost for wls.
if you still get a negitive response move on to the next gp NEVER give up fighting them, i didnt, the more you nagg them the more they take you seriously.
i wish you good luck hun, if things dont go your way tomorrow, u must keep up the fight !

Just to let you know they said no, completely deflated and said under no circumstances will i get a referral unless i have diabetes type2 or co morbities.

:( :( :(

I think you should challenge that.

From my understanding it is your right to be referred for something and it is for the specialist to decide if it goes any further.

The gp cannot refuse to refer you....i am lead to beleive. i'm sure someone will correct me if im wrong

Oh no Sara, Im sorry to hear that.

Would it be worth writing to the practice manager? Or asking to see another GP at the surgery. As Lozzers said above, I didnt think the GP could refuse to refer you - well not if you meet the criteria anyway (which you do)

Dont give up yet chick. It aint over till the fat lady sings.

Have you had a sleep apnoea test? That's the other co-morbidity they consider in your area isn't it and so it's worth getting the gp to refer you for one.

Is there any way you can afford to go privately?

change your gp practice, there obviously anti wls, some areas keep changing the rules to suit themselves for wls referal to put ppl off as its becoming more of a high demand from patients wanting surgery. they are not obviously follwing the NICE guidlines that are put there for a reason.

If you meet the criteria for funding under your PCT, there is no reason your GP can't refer you, unless he/she is anti-WLS.

Ring your PCT and ask them what the funding criteria is. Get it in writing if need be. Then I would consider changing GP; your current one sounds a bit of a ....

Did they give any reasons
My practice have quite a few doctors and I havefound teh locom the best and she is who has got me where I am, if it were left to the other two male doctors i would not even have been on xenical.
I woudl try again if I were you
if you meet the guidelines why not.
xx
