Trouble sleeping.

I'm having the strangest sleeps, like I'm on the verge of sleep but not quite! I know it sounds strange but I'm so tired and Ive never experienced this before. Any ideas?

are you worrying about anything or is something playing on your mind ............usually happens to me when i think about things too much ;)

I dont think so... just focused on resting and getting better not really thinking about much else at the moment. I'm tired now but staying awake so fingers crossed I will sleep tonight x

Sometimes like last night for me I hadn't done enough to be tired and having had a few decent sleeps had done well for me so body wasn't ready. Once the other half came to bed I conked out then the age old early morning start kicked in and the thinking things needed doing and they were likely to sleep past bin collection etc. Stopped me going back to sleep I need to let go of those self imposed responsibilities of getting my lot moving and leave them to sort themselves out or not and learn the hard way. Tired tonight as tried a walk out in the high street thus afternoon but determined not to give in until a sensible time so I hopefully get to sleep a more normal pattern.

Have a warm milky drink before bed.Maz x

I am having trouble sleeping too.
I find it difficult to get to sleep in the first place, it can be a couple of hours before I fall asleep and then I sleep soundly for about four hours and wake up at about 5 am. I often have a milky drink before bed in an attempt to calm myself but it doesn't seem to work post op.
I don't sleep during the day even though sometimes I feel I desperately need a nap, just incase it keeps me awake longer during the night.
I am extremely tired for a lot of the day and my eyes are heavy.
I do feel well apart from that though.

It was worse last night and more than just trouble sleeping! I was terrified and crying most of the night as I was scared to close my eyes.. I'm exhausted. This sounds really strange and hope I can explain it properly but its like I am between sleep and awake. I am dreaming but I cant move, I am in the dream but I am completely paralysed!! My eyes feel like they are shaking or rolling into the back of my head. Ive been on the internet trying to find information and have found something called "Sleep Paralysis"... which sounds very like what I have had the last 2 nights but last night was the worst. My husband was out late last night and I dreamed he had come in heard the keys in the door him coming up the stairs asking if I was ok and I couldnt respond, he was in the room with me and I was fighting to open my eyes and say something. I finally managed to snap myself awake but he wasnt there he was still out and I was on my own, it was a dream. I rang him crying and he came straight back completely freaked out by the state I was in. It is the scariest thing ever and I'm still feeling upset and a bit shaky. Has anyone ever experienced this after surgery?

Not post surgery but sleep paralysis on occasions. I'd have a chat with your team or GP for advice, it may just be post op blues that you control during the day but at night control you and talking them through may help you control and resolve them or you just need some help to relax or short term medication to get your sleep pattern reinstated. Or I could be talking a load of ****, and be totally wrong. Either way I think you need to chat to someone who knows what they are talking about.

I had sleep paralysis for many years when I was younger. I don't even like thinking about now. It has to be the most scary thing that can happen to anybody. I was so frightened to go to sleep it was unbelievable.
Go and see your doctor. They can help. You aren't going bonkers it is something that happens to a lot of people.

I saw my GP this morning as I was going anyway and I mentioned this. She said it could be because of the stress of surgery and just because I am still all over the place with sleep and medication. I will just have to see how I go. So I am going to have a nap now, fingers crossed x

I've had sleep paralysis it's awful I used to get it after a heavy wknd out when I had it I used to have everything you have described but I also always had the feeling someone was in the room with me but I couldn't see them or shout out.. Horrible I hope your get this sorted & a good night sleep hun xxx

I did have a nap this afternoon and I was fine, phew!! That was the scariest thing ever I hope Ive seen the back of it!

Had a lovely sleep last night really hope that was just a one off. Thanks for all the comments guys I thought I was going insane because I had never heard of it before. xxx

At the last support group meeting I attended at the Spire this came up as a discussion topic. I was amazed to find that so many of us there shared the same disrupted sleep pattern. I became apparent that lots of post op people have trouble getting undisturbed sleep. I never got more than three hours in one go and if I got five hours in total each night I was lucky.

Strangely since I got ill I sleep a little better overall, but I still never go more than four hours without waking up. I reckon it helps having a light meal an hour or so before bed, as it stopped me waking up hungry in the middle of the night, but I really don't have an answer to it TBH
