Tummy Tuck After a Bypass...how long after?

Hi everyone,

Been trying on holiday clothes for a week in Portugal next month...part of me is so excited but the other part dreads what to wear on the beach and beside pool.

13 Months on from bypass operation I am a size 14 now, in and around 12.9 stone and coming from nearly 25 that is great and I appreciate the clothes I can wear now. The thing is I can hide my belly in jeans etc but on holiday what do at wear???

So back to original question, as I stand in front of mirror pulling at my horrible, saggy belly I was daydreaming of what it wold be like to have a tummy tuck. It is not on the cards anytime soon BUT just out of interest if paying privately (so no NHS rules) how soon after a bypass would it be possible to have a tummy tuck?

Decided to post here as not everyone on surgery forum has had a gastric bypass.

I had mine at 21 months post bypass and after loosing 20+ stones. I was 12 st 7lbs at the time. I had exceeded expected weight loss at that point and been relatively stable for about 8 months. The surgeon was OK about doing the op but would have preferred me to have been at a stable weight for longer. However because of the infections that I often had I wanted to go ahead. I had to sign to say I had been told and understood that losing (and gaining!!!) more weight could, and most likely would, impact on the surgery effects which I did.

In fact I had all the plastic surgery needed which was masses. I was delighted with it all but did go on to lose another 21lbs and it has meant some areas such as arms have some loose skin now, not too much and no where near as much as before surgery but it does underline the point that you do need to have reached a stable weight. In some ways I do wish that I had waited a little longer but I hated the loose skin and wanted to get it gone.

I love the new me but it could have been even better if I had been more patient but in my defence I had no idea that I would suddenly start to lose again after I got my knees replaced and got a bit more active. The tummy tuck was one of the most successful ops for me I had an extended one which almost went all the way round. Then the following year another specialist bariatric plastics chap did a back lift which helped it even more as it also pulled the lower half and my saggy rear up more as well.

However just for a complete answer I would just add that some areas were outside of what the surgeon would deal with. For instance lower arms and lower legs are saggy still but he won't go there because of the scarring, the number of veins etc

Can't help with tuck as still on my journey. But my tummy is horrible. I swim a lot & there are some lovely tummy support swim suits about which at least suck in the excess tummy folds. I also like floaty sequinned tops over my swim suit if I want to go to the bar or restaurant without dressing. Now can buy all over the place since weight loss LOL
I alway try to wear something in my hair a nice scarf wrapped around it or bold earrings so eyes are drawn up to this rather than my belly. Kid-ology I know but it works. Have a great holiday.
