I know that back pain is not looked at as a co-morbidity. But, it really sucks!!! I am about to call the emergency doc cause I can't move. They will as usual tell me I am fat. It is such an annoying dance I do with the surgery!!! They never take in consideration my weight when they do the prescriptions. Sorry, but I weight nearly 300 pounds! I need more then a couple paracetamol... Sorry for the rant, but feeling really alone. I have no family to help out. My dh can't take time off. I can't lift my two year olds and I am beyond frustrated. I don't understand how they can blame every ailment under the sun on my weight but drag their feet in the surgery...Ok I am done now... lol

Bless you. It sounds like you are having a horrific time! I hope your back gets better very soon and good luck with your wls x x

I hear you I've hade back problems since 16 ( a stroke patient collapsed on me ) which left me with 2 prolapses and degenerate disk disease. Now at 27 I think I have 2 more prolapses my back crushes when I walk. I'm waiting on MRI scans to be done. I have had this new pain for 2.5 years which was always being blamed on muscle and being overweight until my shoulders have become really uneven ( my posture has changed over a long period of time to try and compensate for some of the pain ) . Sorry for long story just goes to show even though they have all MRI proof they still bloody blame it on my weight causing strain on muscles and just let you get on with it. Thank god I have had one nice doctor who realised how much pain I'm in. I'm now on sick had xray and waiting to see specialist end this month also on pain meds. I'm so happy something is getting done and I'm not just left because when I would have lost weight I would of went back for tests and if I am diagnosed I would have sued for leaving me just because I'm big. Just because were big does not mean we do not have problems which should not be treated. X x x

poor you, bad backs stink. One of my main reasons for having wls was my back problems, maybe you should change doctors, mine are really supportive with my back probs. Good luck, I hope you get sorted soon x

Bet your gps receptionist is the big bugbear!i hate them jumped up so and sos!

Woops. Managed to get an appointment. Hopefully, I can get a sneaky update about my referral at the same time. This should be fun with 2 toddlers in tow. Lol

Oddly I had a good appointment today! The doc said "oh I see your gonna be having bariatric surgery, that should help. " so, I left a bit confused as to whether she knew something I don't. A girl can dream... Lol

Hope you get some reasonable pain relief soon. One of the worst hospital appointments I had was after I had two herniated disc. It was a follow up appointment - the consultant said it was all due to my weight and then asked if I worked - I said yes full time - he then said well I would never have employed you and neither would the NHS. I told him that I worked harder than a lot of my thinner colleagues. The laugh of it was no one else in the waiting room was big so I asked him if they had been carrying fat folk about seeing as he blamed mine on my weight. I put on a brave face in his office but had to fight back the tears until I got to the car. My husband wanted to
Make a complaint but I said no. I couldn't stand the embarrassment. Sorry for long post x

What a cheeky effing tw*t - I would complain too, what ever his thoughts are he shouldnt have spoke to you like that -- grrrrrrrrrrr:sigh:

I think if it was now I probably would but it's a few years back - but still sticks with me.

I am a great believer in what goes round comes round so perhaps after my surgery I will apply to work for him and give him some stick - ha ha.

Oh sweetie that's awful! I would definitely complain. I hate doctors like that. I am a nurse and deal with crap all the time. I am trying to do the health visitor degree and one of my bosses told me I should lose weight first. That means discussing health promotion is like someone stinking of fags doing smoking cessation classes.

I got robaxin and cocodamal for my back btw.

Whoaaaaaaaaaa i think you were in my head!!!!!!!!!!!

I can so totally empathise with you. Ive had pb with my back since i was 9, after being hit by a car. Various pb over the years; also as a result, pb with my knee and hip on one side. I have the same thing. I waited for surgery on my spine after a fall and 3 years of immobility and they stopped remembering about my spine/knee. I had just become this fat person whose pbs would all disappear if she wasnt lazy and lost weight. Well dahhhhh if you fixed my back i wouldnt have been stuck in a chair unable to do anything for so long..................

I feel so bad for you hun, i truly know what you are talking about. My kids are grown now, the youngest has just turned 12 tho and she has missed out on so much in comparisson to the older ones. She is too young to remember when we'd all go hiking or swimming, to the theme parks and even white water rafting......all she knows of activities with me is sitting at the table doing a puzzle, playing a board game or making some kind of crafts.

Seems as soon as the weight becomes an issue, the medical profession along with a lot of other people loose site of the 'person'. There are so many things i never went to the dr about after one particularly horrid nurse made a comment about my weight. I go tot he point where i couldnt face any more humiliation. Took a lot to go back and ask for help with my weight.

Is there more than one dr you can see? Is it worth trying agian and specifically asking to see someone else. Or even write a letter to them, explain what you feel you need, how they have made you feel by not listening. I did this, and although it didnt solve all the issues, it made them sit up and listen.

I hope you get what you need hun.....

And you thought you knew how to rant heheh sorry....medical profession ignoring us is pet peeve with me too

I saw a relatively sympathetic doc yesterday. But, she seemed to be very sure all my pain would go away if i get surgery. I am to a certain degree its true. But, everything being blamed on weight does get old.

Ye so true, weight does get blamed and yes to a certain extent it should get better. But if you have a trapped nerve it will still be trapped or if you have a prolapse you will still have the prolapse. Once the damage is done it is done. My back has got much worse since I've lost 3 stone but because I'm big they still blame weight. The funniest one the doctor said was my shoulder blades hurt because people with big boobs have pain there. Yes I wouldn't have minded this remark but I'm the only big person I no that was not blessed with big boob ( B cup ). which I pointed that out to him and he seemed very embarrassed. Can't wait for my boob job I have got nothing now imagine what I'm going to be left with :) x x x
