Vit d Deficency stressing

Hi, my Gp has just called me regarding my bloods that they took in preperation for my future op. She said I am vitamin d deficient and this would stop me having the surgery? :( I have done some research and vit d deficency can be caused by obesity and by taking lanzoprazole which I take 2x per day for acid refulx. Surely the operation would stop me from being obese and the reason I have the reflux is because I am overweight. So the surgery would therefore potentially increase the vit levels??? I am stressing now incase I they wont allow me the op and this has all been pointless. :(

They won't stop your op because your vit d is low. GP's know very little about all things bariatric. He should prescribe you vit d supplements though. If not you can buy 5000iu d3 on amazon. They are made by healthy origins and you get almost a years supply for £10 :)

If your having a bypass, you'll automatically be put on vit d post op anyway.

iv just been told by the dietician to buy some VITAMIN D SPRAY DLUX 1000 from amazon, its £5.36 xx

The bariatric dietician at Derby hospital wrote to my GP to tell them I had a deficiency of Vit D so he prescribed me tablets. Although they raised the level I am still way below the correct level but that had no bearing at all on whether I had the op or not.

Please don't fret - I reckon it's one of those cases where a GP doesn't fully understand the process xx

I found the prescribed Vitamin D are not strong enough to raise my levels. I went to an endocrinologist as mine were extremely low. It was he who advised me to buy the 5000iu ones from Amazon. He basically said adcal and calcichew were rubbish and due to malabsorption post bypass, it would take years to get up to a normal level.

Since I've been taking the 5000iu vit d my levels are back within normal range :)

I buy my vitamin d spray from a seller on ebay arrives in 48 hours, tastes pretty good actually! FREE DELIVERY! WOOHOO

Better You Dlux 1000 Oral Vitamin D3 Spray 15 ML | eBay

Used this seller 3 times now never had a problem, and have just bulk ordered some for myself and the guys at my local support group. This was recommended to me by Girlygirl and since taking it, Ive noticed the difference!

Paula Lewis had the right answer that amounts around 5000iu/daily are required to raise 25(OH)D to the correct level for humans.
If you want to work out more precisely how much vitamin D you require given your current body weight the charts at this link will enable you to do that
Grassrootshealth vitamin D per lb/kg charts
The graph gives an idea of the amounts needed for someone 150lbs weight living in USA (nearer the Equator than UK more sun more vitamin d from sunshine) so probably underestimates requirement for UK.
