Walsall Manor Things sure have changed

Well from reading up on here things really seem to have changed at the manor could someone please tell me all the procedures now got my first consult next month Dr Kendrick September.

In that things have changed when I had my gastroplasty back in the early 90's before Mr Khan moved to Walsal there was no preop diet none of the injections vitamins etc I keep seeing on the forums, there was no bypass operation at all at that time. In fact very little after support at all.

so all in all my questions I guess are

1. do they make you go through hoops of weight management I have already done 18 months at Russells hall on that?

2. Do bypassers get put on the preop diet? I think I have to have open surgery if its still the same due to that my first op was open there was no keyhole in the 90's

3. where do I buy 100% cotton knickers.

4. what sort of timescales is it I know I got my first 2 appointments pretty early I nagged Tracey lol. If I get passed am I looking at this year for my bypass?

5. Am I put on lifetime vitamins injections ?

I know I can get all these answers when I go but like to know what I am talking about before I go lol

Thanks all

No you are under a different PCT

2. Do bypassers get put on the preop diet? I think I have to have open surgery if its still the same due to that my first op was open there was no keyhole in the 90's
Yes Pre-op diet is to shrink your liver. Sandwell don't normally fund keyhole at Walsall

3. where do I buy 100% cotton knickers.
You don't wear knickers during surgery

4. what sort of timescales is it I know I got my first 2 appointments pretty early I nagged Tracey lol. If I get passed am I looking at this year for my bypass?
Not sure. Mine was 11 months from referral to op But the newer patients should be able to help on this one

5. Am I put on lifetime vitamins injections ?
If you are under Russells Hall KEEP going they will check your bloods every 3 months unlike WM. who will check if they get round to it. My bloods have come back fine every time so no injections for me but I have to take iron and Adcal D3 due to deficiency. This was discovered by RH before it became an issue

I know I can get all these answers when I go but like to know what I am talking about before I go lol

Thanks all

was hoping you would pick up this thread Wendy lol and I want my knickers on to walk to surgery not going barebacked and paper knickers dont fit my bahookie. Oh crap was gonna cancel off with RH thing with there is you go spend 2 hours sitting around then 2 mins in lol I hate it there but if you think it best to keep going to their weight management I guess thats the way it will be.

i started my journey in november 2012. Saw Mr Mirza on 23rd November. I also saw Ana Elshaw the bariatric nurse and Georgia the dieticien on that day. I was told not to gain a lb (I was sent and funded by Sandwell PCT) and Saw Dr Kendrick on Velentines Day this year (14 feb 2012). I saw Dr Yousef the anathaethatist on the 21st February and had my surgery on the 25th.

With regards to knickers, the gowns at the Manor are pretty good. Instead of showing your botty they will always give you a second gown to wear covering your bott. They did that with me back in Feb, 5 months on and despite the probs Ive had with my sleeve Im now 8 1/2 stone lighter.

Im at the hospital most Fridays for clinic etc.. so if your about, give me a shout and can always meet you for a coffee if you like. Any other questions just ask.

A friend of mine had a bypass in June and Mr Kahn and Mr Mirza did this procedure via laparoscopy (pls forgive the spelling)

Im also curious as to whether the specialist bariatric ward will be being reopened again. They closed it end of March this year due to lack of funding despite doing 7 operations per day 7 days a week.. odd. So I spent 4 weeks on specialist wrd and 12 on Ward 10. Staff on Ward 10 are nice enough, couple of bariatric nurses on there, but the main specialist staff are predominantly on ward 11 which is mens surgical.

Tracey's been brilliant with me, and I love Ana to bits. certainly made a bad patch better.

Thanks Scooter am there on 10th August unless i fall lucky and tracy calls me with a cancellation but my appointment time is at 9:20 she did tell me that if I saw dr heartland to ask him to pop me into Mr Khan or the other surgeon while I was there so hopefully that will happen and they will say all being well with dr Kendrick they will go ahead if you are around on the 10th would be lovely to meet up for a coffee as I said things have changed drastically from the early 90's so feel like a newbie all over again lol. Am hoping that if Dr Kenrick sees me in September then hoping I will get a date for october or am I pushing my luck you think

I think that once you are discharged from WM (at approx 2 years) they will send you back to RH.
I was discharged from WM at about 13 months out due to the fact I am under RH and am in "Good hands with Dr Labib" as I was told by Dr Hartland.
I know its a pain sometimes but they really do look after you. Plus its great fun seeing everyone under weight management look at you and thinking "why is she here"
A friend of mine didn't get any bloods done until she was over 18 months out at Walsall. But RH gave me a bloods form before my op and told to make an appointment for 6 weeks after my op and get bloods done the week before so they could check everything was ok.

When are you at RH next
