Was it as bad/good as you expected?

For me it went as expected up until i developed gallbladder problems around day 10 post op, once that was sorted i started to lose weight quickly. I had expected this but not to the extent it has happened, it still feels like i had the op a week or two ago when it was 4 months ago, so i suppose the mental adjustments have been the hardest for me to deal with. Accepting i DO look good is definately a major thing for me, and i am getting there :) even if i am still amazed everytime someone comments.

food wise i have been surprised that i am still not feeling hunger, and am also one of the lucky ones as have rarely suffered from 'head hunger'

The recovery period for me was ok, I had up and down days, somedays very emotional, but it was the mental thing with me, like i was thinking all kinds of stuff, Took me around 8 weeks, to come to terms with what I had done, But In all honesty, it was what i expected, Its the best desision I have ever made and has changed my life completely.

I had very bad trapped wind which nothing would relieve. I couln't take in the quantity of fluids expected. I was so uncomfortable. By day 7 it suddenly seemed better, and since have felt stronger each day. So, with all this in mind, it has probably been worse than I expected!

recovery after my 1st band wasnt a smooth ride for me as with the swelling and the small fill that was put in my band during surgery closed my band hole completley and i was very ill with severe dehydration.

second time was very straight foward, i was up out of bed with in a few hours it was a breeze compared to the 1st time. the sooner i walked/moved about the quicker i felt i got better.

I have to say almost everything was better than I expected mainly because I was expecting open surgery and ended up having keyhole. Recovery has been good and was up and about within a couple of days of being home. However what I was not expecting was the anaesthetic blues on day 3/4 to be as bad as it was. I think I worried a few people - my dad being one of them but I am 11 days post op now and have to admit its the best decission I have made in a long time I am 25lb lighter(including my preop diet w/l) and have more energy already 8O) xXXx

Hi Lisa, I'm only 6 days post op but so far I've been ok. Was expecting the wind pain so was prepared with gripe water so have'nt suffered too bad with that. The wound pain is'nt half as bad as I thought it was going to be so thats been a nice surprise too. All in all I have found having this op easier than I originally thought but ask me again next week and it might be a different story lol. I would'nt hesitate to have it done again if need be so I've no regrets at all.

Mine was ok I was expecting to be in pain and I was. I havent had any hunger yet or cravings. So for me it was better than I thought cause I thought I would be hungry but I have no interest in food now Very strange lol

All aspects of my lapriscopal bypass (Y en Roux) was far far easier than i was expecting. No wind pain, no major operation pain, up walking later same day, completely back to normal in a few days. Was really surprised I couldn't 'tell' per se that tummy had been stapled. It feels exactly the same, you just can't consume in the same way.

For me the only thing worse than expected is rate of weight loss. I'm 1 and a half stone down in 8 weeks (including preop), which frankly I could have done with weight watches. But at least I know they are gone for life...

My first night post op was seriously uncomfortable as my bladder went on strike. Other than that the whole experience was utterly pain free. Which did totally take me by surprise. However, until my first band fill (which isn't until the 15th) I have absolutely no restriction. Fortunately I have not put on any weight, but then neither have I lost anything that couldn't have been done using any other diet program. In the 3 weeks since the op, all I have lost is 5lb. Hopefully serious weight loss will kick in after the band fill!

Hi
Only had Op Saturday so feel under qualified to answer in great detail lol!! but will say that up to now I am sailing through with only a slight discomfort, no wind pain and mobility is same as pre-op but just struggle bending down.
Mostly I have been tired as I never slept night before Op and night of Op, slept well last night.
I am out today for a short walk with the dog as I feel fine, beginning to wander if they actually have put a band in me lol!! Only that I have restriction as Mr Amouri put 3mls in at time of Op then I would be seriously having x-rays to check I have a band in lol.

The recovery was a lot longer & harder than I expected. It just took so many months to get used to my new stomach & how it operated. I couldn't tell when I had to go to the bathroom, what was a real cramp, when was I full?

The surgery was about what I expected painwise. I had to stay in the hosp. an extra day due to a fever but that was about it.

For me the post op pain was much worse than i expected. I was in agony. I couldnt lay down in bed, i couldnt get up from sitting without help. I got nerve damage pain, which was horrendous, and i still get a bit when laid on my left side now. The first 3weeks were the worst for recovery.
Now 6 weeks post op, im learning what i can and cant eat, getting into a routine of when i can eat and drink. Some days i get fed up with not being able to eat properly but nearly 3.5st 6 weeks post op makes it worth it!!! :D

i had my bypass on the 13th may i was in hospital from the 11th until 17th and that was with no complications!!! the op itself was probably the easiest part of my hospital stay it was all the pulling about that got me down even though i know it was for my own good. it wasn't the best week of my life but i kept saying to myself one horrible week thats all it is and then i will have my whole life infront of me. now 2 wks post up i am in little pain and most importantly in 4 wks(including pre-op diet) i have lost 2 stone!!!!

Lisa - good question - I should have asked this before my banding last weekend! So I'm just home after my surgery on Sunday morning. I have to say it went pretty much like I thought it would. The only thing that has really surprised me is the uncomfortable wind! Can't lie down, can't sit in certain positions - driving me a bit mad. But has started to let up a bit - I just keep trying to walk as much as possible and I think that's helping. Haven't been too hungry yet - of course still on liquids - but take a few drinks and have to wait a few minutes until I want more. Will be interesting to see how it progresses!!

I have sailed through my experience - I had a bypass on 16 April and can honestly say that apart from throwing up immediately after the surgery, its been plain sailing. A bit of diarrhea in the first few days but off pain relief by day 4, eating and drinking not a problem and would have done it years ago had I had the courage! Only small minus is that everything I eat, I go off within about a week so shopping for food is an ordeal!

Hi i had band on 15 april i am so glad i had op lost 30 pound so far first fill 30 may i feel so much better even with the weight i have lost so far . First night at home was worse due to wind pain found it hard to breath but would have it done again i know i can lose weight on my own but it always goes back on so this is the only way for me.
