hi everyone, quick question....i am almost 6 weeks post op from a gastric bypass, i am having white stool movements roughly about 4 a day and its been getting worse of the last 2 weeks, considering i am on iron tablets (amongst other tablets) i thought they would be darker in colour.... i googled this and everything i found on this indicated either some problems with my gall bladder or liver or pancreas but nothing was saying it was related to and RNY....anyone else have this problem... bloody internet has me scared now!!! i should know better, i will contact my team tomorrow, but i just wanted to know if this was common :(

Ive never had that problem shannon but i would certainly be having a word with your team or if you have no really worried yourself with the internet you could allways give nhsdirect a call just to set your mind at rest x

If you are taking the calcium its that!Otherwise the change in diet will settle it.I no longer have brown poo only tan coloured!

ahha i am talking a vitc/d tablet (adcal) it could very well be that... i have been taking it for roughly 2 weeks too so that would make sense, thank you xx

While we are on the poo subject, mine is dark green like duck poo lol i just presumed it was off the iron tablets

I once had white stools and it turned out I had contacted Hepititus A. I did feel very unwell at the time but as I was also pregnant I had put my feeling of unwell down to the pregnancy. I had picked up the illness ( which affects the liver) via money i was handling at the petrol service station I used to work and not washing my hands before grabbing a sandwich for lunch. Lesson learned lol!!

White stools are not normal and should be checked out straight away to put your mind at rest.

Hope it is the calcium, Shannon :) Get it checked anyway, don't just let it slide. (no pun intended). I know we get sick of seeing doctors (are you not a nurse) but some things are important. Loving the title 'stools/poo' just in case we though it was the three legged variety, no doubt. lol :D

Glad you are getting checked even though as you say it probably is nothing to worry about ... I knew you were an orthopedic nurse after reading the thread re your second day back at work ... I just meant that you were used to doctors as you see them daily. Try not to worry, hunnie :)

Hi Shannon,

what you describe an be due to an obstruction in the biliary system which carries bile from gallbladder (thats what colours poo), have you any jaundice (most noticable in whites eyes in daylight not room light) do you feel unwell or have any pain in upper right side which can extend around to back (gallstone problem) if feel okay/no pain give team a ring first thing tomorrow to check anyway.
