wieght gain

Did you have to sign an agreement with your surgical team re: weight gain?

Lx

Are you at St Richards karen? I was told to try and stay the same, not lose any, but have the occassional treat, so I wouldn't worry too much. That's why you're having the operation in the first place isn't it???

my surgeon isnt keen at all with people gaining weight but they all have there own rules, did they set you a weight loss target ?

I was gaining weight all the time right up until the pre-op diet.

My life was different then and food was my saviour. I saw these last few months, after my operation had been agreed, as my 'final binge'. I believe I put on nearly 2 stone after the first initial consultations.

But I followed the pre-op diet to the letter and nothing was said!

Hey Karen, no hun you won't get told off they might ask you if you have been struggling but it is the reason you are having the surgery. I am on weight watchers not for any reason other than if I have less weight to lose after the surgery then its for the better. The other good thing is if you lose a certain amount of weight you're pre-op diet is shorter! Mine is a week whoop whoop!! Anyway don't panic you're fine as Mixman says its our final days but i personally wouldn't binge, i can't anymore it just makes me feel unwell. I'm waitin for that call as well, i don't think it will be till mid October so just another couple weeks to go my love xxx Good Luck hope we get good news together :) xxxx

I put on a few pounds and no-one said anything! It's the size of your liver that matters and the pre-op diet sorts that out. Try not to gain any more though! xx

from my consultant app to my pre-op assessment i put on 3 stone!! i also saw it as my final binge but stuck to my liver shrinking diet religously and my op was fine but i do regret not losing weight before hand as i would have been even lighter now but easier said then done otherwise i wouldnt of needed the op in the first place!!!!!

ive lost weight but thats the stones and stress nothing said last week. lost 13ilbs since may which i thought was a lot but hey

I had gained some weight when I last saw the bariatric dietitian so she went back over what I was eating and not much had changed, she finally put this down to my thyroid problem. I saw the surgeon a few weeks ago and he said that if i gained more weight they would suspend me from the list until I began losing weight again.

But saying that all hospitals are different.

I put a stone on from 1st seeing my Dr to having my op.(lost some on the pre op) They didnt way me the day of the op so nothing was said

The day i met my consultant to talk through my options i was weighed, i was so disgusted with myself that i'd got to this stage i vowed there and then to start losing weight and lost a stone just by cutting back a bit in the few weeks between my consultation and pre op diet starting.

Stop binging now and make a life changing commintment to yourself, lose some weight before the op, having a "pre op binge" isn't clever, its just extra pounds you have to lose post op, every pound you gain increases the risk factors when your on the table ! have a bit of self respect and do something positive for yourself before your re plumbed or banded up !

SS makes a good point there. It is difficult though because there could be quite a gap between first consultation and op if you are on the NHS Have you a date for op yet? x

I couldn't agree more with this point of view, it may seem harsh but its realistic and why put more weight and pressure on your already suffering body. I've been on weightwatchers since I was referred and I've lost a stone which is brilliant, its 1 less stone to worry about after the op. Stay optimistic and don't binge! xxxx
