I am thinking about seeing my doctor about weight loss surgery but feel like I might not qualify. I can never seem to lose the weight. I have lost 2 stone before by dieting, then I stall and just start putting the weight back on.

I have just checked my bmi on the nhs website and have a bmi of 36.3, I am 5ft 7in (male), and weigh 16st, 8lbs.

I also have type 2 Diabetes and High Blood Pressure and take these meds daily : Metformin, Ramipril, Amlodipine, Bisoprolol Fumerate, Atorvastatin and Asprin.

I would love to be able to go private and just get it sorted but at this moment in time I am unable to find the funds.

Im not great in going docs on a regular basis and if I can avoid going to see them I do, as I don't like wasting the doctors time. I just keep telling myself I wont get funding although and desperate to lose this weight.

Hi! My advice is book an appointment and go ask, if you don't ask you will never know! The worst they can say is no..good luck!!

I would say if you don't ask you dont ( fingers crossed) get
You have everything to gain and nothing to lose

I would echo everything the others said - the worst that can happen is they say no but you never know.

When I was referred my bmi was just over 38 - below the standard 40 criteria but was accepted due to having co-morbidities. You can definitely argue a case based on your co-morbidities and the medication you take.

Make an appointment!

Good luck x

You have a good chance!

The NICE 'guidelines' are BMI of over 35 with co morbidities, of which type II diabetes is one.

Good luck x

You're within the NICE guidelines, however local Clinical Commissioning Groups have different requirements. You'll need a 'tier 3 referral' from your GP then you'll have regular checkups with a specialist who will both assess you for surgery and discuss alternative measures.

As your BMI is quite low you might want to try the '10 day juicing detox', which is highly effective for short term weight loss but you should speak to your GP before trying it.
