Pros & Cons?

Hi all, :wavey:

Just wondered if any of you who have had the gastric band would be willing to post some of your pros & cons of the experience?

I'd love to know any info you can share.
For instance.....

Are you still happy you made the right choice in having the op rather than persevering with diets etc?

How have you coped since your op - have you recovered well/were there any complications?

Has the weight loss been all you hoped for?

Do you cope ok with the way you have to eat now?

As I said, any & all info you feel able to share would be great :D

im 4 years post band, the only regret i have is not doing it sooner, i struggled on with diets instead of taking the bull by the horns sooner.

i recovered well, ive had a few hitches along the way but still have no regerets at all.

ive had a 7st 7llbs loss, im now in the over weight catogory and im more than happy with how i am now. you can only get out of a band what you choose to put into it effort wise as its only an aid to slimming.

Do you cope ok with the way you have to eat now?

its hard at 1st as its a major life style change, but you will get used to it, willpower is needed alot with banding regarding slider foods, if you have that willpower with these foods then a band can work really well for you.

As I said, any & all info you feel able to share would be great :D

Hi Jules, I'm only 4 weeks post op but even at this short time I have NO regrets at all. I'm ready for a fill at the moment so the weight loss seems to have stopped but I know once I start with the fills the band will be a good thing for me. It really does restrict the portion sizes which is ideal for me.

Hi Jules
I am 4 weeks post Op I have lost 20lbs (need to update ticker). I have no regrets, no hunger and am 100% happy.
I had no pain just discomfort having Op and have to say I would do it all again if I had to.
The best buzz is people are starting to notice now yipeeeee!!

Hi all, :wavey:

Are you still happy you made the right choice in having the op rather than persevering with diets etc?

I had my band fitted 25th April and its the best decision I ever made. Since my initial appointment I have lost 34lbs

How have you coped since your op - have you recovered well/were there any complications?

Recovered from the op really well. Back at work after a week. No complications.

Has the weight loss been all you hoped for?

My weight loss is better than I expected.

Do you cope ok with the way you have to eat now?

Gave up rice, pasta and bread prior to the op and dont intend to try them again. Apart from that I still amazed at how little fills me up!

As I said, any & all info you feel able to share would be great :D

Are you still happy you made the right choice in having the op rather than persevering with diets etc?

150 million percent yes! I wish this could have been an option for me years ago, I have been happier about my body image now and for the futurein the last 3 weeks and 5 days than for the last 10 years!

How have you coped since your op - have you recovered well/were there any complications?

I was in a lot of pain, and extremely sick after coming round from the op, but by day 3 I was moving around normally.I have recovered really well from the op, and my scars are all healing nicely.I am still suffering from the odd bout of trapped wind which is usually in my shoulder, but deflatine or windeze sorts it out very quickly.

Has the weight loss been all you hoped for?

I have lost almost 2 stones in 3 and a half weeks ( Just over 4 weeks inc. pre op diet), coupled with not feeling hungry at all, I am over the moon with the weight loss so far, I had 4ml put into my band during the op, and have my first fill next week.

Do you cope ok with the way you have to eat now?

Yep.Have not had any issues with any of the foods I have tried.I just need to remember to chew slowly and eat small mouthfuls. Its more changing a habit for me, as I used to gulp my food down without even registering it was in my mouth- but definately getting better at properly chewing, and taking a break between mouthfuls.

As I said, any & all info you feel able to share would be great

Wishing you all the best.

Thank you all so much for your honesty and sharing your experiences.

My research continues, lol!

Thanks again,
xx
