The journey goes on

Hi blue. Well wasnt too bad took my little container of mushy food and had half for lunch and then other half driving back. I have to say missed getting snacks from trolley on train!!!! I have my first fill on 7th June I am really scared cause I don't like NEEDLES!!!!please let me know how yours goes. Good luck.

Well I got through it. First fill!!!!!! Wasn't quite as bad as I expected but still managed to bite a large bruise onto my arm. So back to liquids for three days. I have lost 34 pounds since the start of my journey so very happy with that. Finding it hard not to eat soft food when I am able to eat real food and really hard to eat slowly and little mouthfuls. Keep getting food stuck even simple things like scrambled egg. I have six days respite and then have to start trying again!!!!!

Bloody scrambled eggs eh - you'd think they would be simple to eat!....But nope....they swell and hurt!...

Well done on your first fill...I think what hurt the most for me, was raising my legs in the air, as I have sciatica, and it was really hurting...The first puncture, the specialist nurse missed the port, that was ouchy, but the second one wasnt too bad.

Well done on your weight loss so far...you've caught up to me!

(Shush...Ive just come back from 5 days of no a calorie counting download festival holiday, Weigh day today, im dreading it, but I needed time-out to just let my hair down. Plus I took all the food with me, so I basically pigged out on weight watchers stuff lol, so its not that bad....)

Blue I was so lucky cause if she had missed the port I would have been out of there like a shot. Have had quite alot of restriction altho can eat more now but need to learn the art of small mouthfuls and chewing. Might reduce all the pain with eating!!!!! Very worried as we are off to Portugal for 6 days so I am going to have to really use will power. How was your weigh day?????

Im not doing bad...im getting used to trying foods and many of them hurting lol....But im sticking to the calories....apart from download festival - where I decided to have 5 days off the diet, forget counting calories...and just let my hair down....its not like I could eat anything at the festival lol...i took most of the food with me, so I was fine.

I did however gain 2lbs....which since ive been back, ive lost and another pound....So im back on track!

I was due my 2nd fill on the 19th June. But I called and re-arranged for a few weeks later on the 3rd July....As it gives me a bit more time getting used to this fill!

So your off to Portugal - How lucky are you!...Id love to go....Ive been before, its lovely there...and the food is lush!...Im sure you'll be ok over there!

I am so looking forward to going and very worried about the food part as that has always been a big part of my holidays!!!! Thankfully I definately have restriction had a salad from marks today and could only manage half. Also learning the art of chewing ALOT, which definately helps stop pain when eating.

LOL CHEWING - I chew about 20 times and count it in my head, so that I know the food is small to go through the band...as I know what that horrid feeling is, when it gets stuck....OUCH the pain!

Look, don't worry about Portuguese food...Its not that hard to eat...Loads of salads, chicken, some spiciness but Im sure your'll handle it....plus depending on where you are going there's usually a cafe/restaurant with English foods....just scan the menu to see which is right for you....Thats what i do when I go to restaurants....and starters are the perfect portion size usually.

Well I am not the best at keeping my status up to date, but here goes. Back from a lovely time in Portugal, I did put on a couple of pounds but I know that was from the wine that I had and definately not from eating. I managed to get by comfortably on tuna salad and fish. Had a lovely time in the sun and was not too happy to come back to this rain!!!! I have now had my second fill and am doing fine. I do have some restriction but not a huge amount. Quite happy at the moment tho cause I am eating healthy and oh my goodness soooo much less than before I was banded (best presie my husband could ever give me!) I did try a little bread as in bread rolls in Portugal but bread is a definate no no for me, so havent even been tempted to try it again, and bread was probably one of my biggest downfalls. Strangely enough I am not missing it at all. Same as diet coke, I thought that I couldnt get by without it on a daily basis but am not even missing it. I seem to be losing weight regularly sometimes one pound a week sometimes two, but to be honest I am really happy with that because even if it is slow at least it is coming off. I went out to a family party over the weekend and some pictures of me went onto facebook and my daughter who is travelling and hasnt seen me for a year called me from New Zealand to say that she couldnt believe the change - strange because I cant really see it right now. Although my clothes have gone down in size I am still in Huuuuge sizes 24/26 on top and 20 trousers, so I still feel rather large - dont anyone get me wrong I am thrilled to have dropped and know that it will come but just my thoughts. The one thing that I have noticed is that I do not pant when I have to climb stairs or walk, which is great. I am due to have another fill at the end of this month and after reading other peoples messages, I think that I can expect big changes after the third fill. The one thing that I have been really bad about is getting back into my fitness regime. I just cant motivate myself to get out of bed at 7 and go and swim or go to the gym. I promised myself that I would start today but found another excuse not to go. I am sure that I would loose more if I started doing some excersise!!!!!Will have to put some of my will power into motivating my self!! I was really amazed when I went for my last fill - it took a few seconds and was all over. I have a serious phobia with needles so work myself into quite a state pre fill, and up to now have not set my eyes on the syringe or needle that is used, I come out with large bite marks on my arm where I have been gnawing at it and really cant believe that I am such a baby because it is not painful at all just the thought of the needles!!!!!But really it is so quick and painless maybe by the end of all this I will have settled with it!!!Well I think that is me up to date probably for the next two or three weeks. Hope everyone keeps on loosing and having fun....

Sounds like the holiday was just what you needed as a reward.

Glad your second fill went ok. Dont worry about clothing sizes, they are all different in every shop!....You'll be out of them and down sizes before you know it.

Thanks for keeping these diaries, they really do help soon to be post oppers like me... your all doing great!!

Melba toast a very deffinate NO!!!!just tried it thinking I don't havnt any restriction well I do!!!!! I have tried it before and it made me very unwell and this time it was worse. Lesson learnt if it don't go down first time give it up. So I guess it's back to good healthy food.

Kay,
I found bread a painful test....

BUT....if you go in tescos....to the bread section....go to where the wraps are...

They have mini wraps by Mission Deli....Now I can dip rip them apart and dip them in soup, and if I put wafer thing chicken or salad in it, as a wrap sarnie like...it all works.

Perhaps try it?

Here's the spec for them:

Mission Deli Wraps - Mini Wheat & White Wraps, 31 g
Calories per wrap: 97
Carbs: 15
Fat: 3
Sat Fat: 1
Protein: 2
Sugar: 1

Thanks blue will try them cause I now know bread in any form isn't going down. Actually the dietician said to try wraps but I was a bit unsure will grab some of those and give it a go. Low on calories hey. OMG I have just seen how much weight you have lost WELL DONE. That is so good

Thanks Kay, Its really starting to show now....All my old size 18 clothes are fitting again.

BUT Hang on...your at what 39lbs loss?....your not far from me....Almost creeping up to the 3 stone mark eh....it feels such an achievement when you hit it....Now for the 4 stone mark for me!

Did you know that with a band, your meant to lose 50% of your overall excess...meaning if like me....

Im 5'6tall, and should be between 11-12 stone (although my target is 13 stone)....
I started at 19st 10lbs, so almost 20 stone!!!....so about 8 stone overweight of my ideal weight range....so 50% of that is 4 stone....and ive almost done that...

My specialist nurse said im doing 'Exceptionally well'....So lets see if I can get 7 stone off!....anything over 4 stone is a bonus I know, but im excited either!...

Just a quickie to say....

F**k me, I ate Pitta bread the other day - it was evening time...it was a mini white one...with some guacamole on it....at my mums...and wow...first bit of bread that worked and never hurt!

Oh yes I also tried a little pitta and managed it also tried a wrap and with alot of chewing it went down well.

OMG I have probably had the worst week in at least twelve years!!!!!! Last weekend we came down to Worthing(three hours from home) with our boys to jet ski on the sea. Well to cut a long story short my OH had an accident on the jetski and broke his back!!!! So one week on I am still in Worthing. Thankfully he is not paralysed, which is a miracle with the type of fracture he has. Yesterday we were also informed that he dis not have to have an operation just had this ninja turtle like body brace fitted. Any way I am delighted he is out of the danger zone. I am even more delighted to say that throughout this traumatic time I haven't put on a single pound. My eating has not been good been grabbing bits to eat around the hospital and having to go home every other day to feed cat and check up on our business so alot of time spent in the car. Before my band I would have stuffed my face continually especially when driving but I am amazed this has not happened. What amazes me even more is the fact that I was supposed to have a fill last week but the dietician cancelled it cause she wants me to learn to work with my band!!! So my restriction isn't great but still some. I have consolled myself with a little shopping therapy tho I have dropped from a size 22/24 trousers to a size 20 which intrigues me. Can't believe I can fit into 20 skinny jeans!!!!!!also had to do personal care for my hubby in hospital which would have left me hoy, sweaty and gasping for breath before, I managed to do it and still look as fresh as can be expected with very little sleep. I weighed on my daughters scale which said I had actually lost a pound or two but won't get excited till I weigh at home on mine. So great news all round husband not paralysed and I haven't put on. May not have lost but who cares this week the main thing I haven't put on. Keep on loosing all you banders out there and be patient those who haven't lost it will come off!!!! Have a great weekend everyone

OMG what a week so glad your hubby is going to be ok.

Kay, you sound so strong and positive! What a terrible thing to happen, but great news that things are not as bad as they could have been. Big virtual hug and positive vibes to you both xxx
