So I've finally reached the losers bench, what a strange whirlwind journey its been.
Started my journey in November 2014, had often thought about having wls but never imagined it could possibly be available for someone my size and bmi (39.7) on the nhs. On November the 5th I was taken in for surgery to remove my gallbladder, after the op the surgeon and team came to see me and told me that I had a condition called stetohepatatis a rare form of liver disease. So I was given a date to attend the group education class in January and a separate appointment in January to see nurses and consultant/surgeon and was put straight onto the waiting list, had my pre-op beginning of May and gastroscopy end of May. Started my liver shrinkage diet on the 27th of May which consisted of 4 ultra slim shakes a day as well as 2 litres a day which I stuck to religiously.
Finally had my op on the 11th of June.

Hey Kay, congratulations on reaching the loser's bench!! Fantastic journey so far and I'm looking forward to reading how you get on post-op.

Best wishes and take care

hello loser! rest up ,your new life as just started!

It all went really well considering my liver was huge even though I stuck to to my pre op religiously but I suffer from a rare type of liver disease so that may be the reason why.
On coming round in recovery I was literally shaking and felt freezing cold (not sure why) the recovery nurse covered me with a heated blanket and administered morphine intravenously, I spent about two and a half hours in recovery and was then taken up onto the ward where I spent the rest of the night in and out of sleep with nurses constantly doing observations

Day 1 was able to get out of bed and go to the toilet and change out of the gowns and into my pjs, washed brushed teeth etc, then sat in the chair for a while, had meds (paracetamol and tramadol as well as anti sickness and heartburn/acid meds) felt so full after taking them and as soon as they kicked in I literally threw myself back into bed to sleep.
Doctor came round and took bloods and then surgeon came round to tell me how everything went and that's when I found out about my huge liver :( dietician then came to spk to me and then pharmacist and finally I was discharged. Don't remember much of the journey home. Once home I spent the rest of the evening sip sip siping on water and felt wind pain on every swallow, took pain meds and had a early night. Found it hard to get comfy all night.

Day 2 woke up with terrible wind pain walked round as much as I could, taking all the meds really makes me feel full up. Managed about 6 sips of tea and about 30ml of water dosed on and off all day. Passing wind like a trooper.

Day 3 woke at 6am with terrible backache took pain meds and went back to sleep, woke at 8am feeling much better. Pottered around in the kitchen but never really did much, managed a quarter of a cup of tea and watched a film with the kids, went up to bed at 11.30am and slept till 1.30pm woke and had a protein shake of which I've managed 50ml. Going to try a soup for dinner and get another early night. Passing wind non stop but not felt the need for the pain meds since this morning.

Welcome on board Kayy. For weeks is difficult. It is an operation after all but very soon you will feel much better and gradually as your stomach heals, eating and drinking will get easier.
Good luck!

Congratulations on you sleeve. I had mine 2/6/15 and my experience much like yours, I'm still struggling with any amount of anything really.
Hope you soon start to recover.
Good luck.x

Well done kayy. Hopefully each day will be easier :)

Ps you might want to change your profile stats, it thinks you are 13 foot seven inches, with a BMI of 6. ;).

Loool that is too funny.
Hey kayy ill be keeping up with your weightloss diary. Keep up the good work and continue filling in your diary. I'm always excited to read about people's journeys. I think I have learnt the most from here than from anywhere else.

Congrats Kay!!

As a loser in the pipeline I'll be keeping a close eye on your diary..

Well done!

Day 4 pain when swallowing is most certainly easing, still got terrible back ache and can't stand for too long, max of 10 mins without feeling tired. Pottered around a little and managed to help get the little ones ready for bed, managed a total of 150ml protein shake and 1 litre of water today. In general feeling much better than I have done and must add I have had no wound pain at all.

Hi Kayy, glad to hear you're feeling better and managing to get your water down. I'm going for a sleeve and sadly it won't be until sept/Oct x

Claire you will be so surprised how quick the time passes, it's good that you reading up
In preparation during your wait as it wants you will be mentally ready to face the changes. Looking forward to reading up on your progress xx

How are you feeling now? Do you get hungry yet? Xx
Well, nausea sort of rules out hunger and I still do have some nausea. But just trying to make myself eat 3 times a day, very bland food. Think its too early gor hunger, way too early, takes a while for those nerves to heal.
I had no problem swallowing though. If the nausea doesn't go back to where it was yesterday I will be fine, sore but thats OK, tired etc but fine. X

Did they not put you on anti sickness meds, I've go the syrup to take which I believe has helped keep the sickness at bay. Sounds like you are doing the right thing in forcing yourself to eat. I'm still not managing much apArt from water and shakes x
