PCT being abolished

Hi does anyone know how abolishing the local PCT's and giving the funding directly to doctors will effect chances and waiting list times for bariatric surgery? I've been told as of April this year the PCT will no longer be the ones approving funding instead GP practices will themselves be responsible for there own budget. Im wondering if this will make it easier or harder to get funding.

It's supposed to make it easier as they have to follow the NICE guidelines rather than making up their own local criteria which have in the main been more strict than NICE x x

Wonder if this will apply to plastics aswell ?

hi i had confusion about this too i was refered either on the 9th or the 18th unsure of that but on the 18th when i spoke to my gp about why my referal hadnt been sent she said she would look into it but 10 mins later i got a call saying which hospital would i like my appointment at ? what does this all mean does this mean she has approved funding or not im soooo confused

dont give up on trying i got turned down for 4 long long yearsbut finally got the funding in dec

At least the guidelines give everyone in England a level playground to work from now which has got to be good, in theory .. Just hope the practise works xx

Vamp, you did get wls on the nhs hon. You didn't get your revision - I think you're being unfair here. Just because you didn't get it, doesn't mean we shouldn't keep fighting for the medical care that we need, for the whole package. Every person who does get it should be counted as a victory for the whole community.

I am not sure that the loss of the PCT will result in more operations. The finances will be handed to the GP's who will have to decide what to spend the money on, so even if you qualify under the NICE guidelines, if they choose not to fund it because they have prioritised other operations, I am not sure what the route of appeal would be.

I paid for my bypass privately so was hoping that the change would mean tummy tick would be fairer to get. I suppose that will have to be on credit card too!

I'm gutted, at the start of my journey the hospital were really positive about my chances of getting ps but at my last appointment they said due to the changes my chances were now slim to none I'm not really bothered about my arms or belly but my boobs really get me down as the excess skin makes them look awful... oh well I'll just have to keep my fingers crossed for a lottery win!!!

Me too the whole things confusing!!

I don't know everyone's story on here but I just want to say that anyone who does get surgery DOES count themselves lucky! I haven't had any surgery as yet, been trying for years and it seems the ball is finally rolling and I feel tremendously lucky as could not afford to go private. I understand the frustrations of being turned down as I was turned down multiple times I just kept fighting.
