Hey there and welcome to MiniMins!!! Glad you are finding the site helpful. I am newish to the site too and I have found it so helpful.
Anyway my name is Amanda and im having a bypass on the 3rd of August with Mr Ammori. Like you I have a long long way to go with my weight (my goal is to loose about 16 to 17 stone).
Anyway I hope to see you around the site, I cant keep off here now I have found it!!
Good luck!

Hi Sarah, welcome to Minis :) there are loads of brilliant people on this site so if you have any questions please feel free to ask :):)
The types of surgery seem to depend on whether or not you are a volume eater or a sweet eater. But im sure that when you see your consultant he will advise you as to what surgery he thinks is best for you. tasha xxx

Hi Sarah and :welcome2:to minis. There are loads of helpful people here so fire away any questions you may have. I'm a bander and I chose the band because I ate big portions and because I was'nt brave enough for anything more invasive.Having the band reduces the portion sizes so its working for me.Speak with your consultant and be honest about your eating habits. Depending on your BMI and any other health problems he will help you decide which op will work best for you. Good luck in your weight loss journey and hopefully you will share it with us here on minis. Jump in and join the happy clan as we'll all make you feel :welcome2:

Thanks so much for you comments, like you gaynor i have a portion control issue, i just love a big old plate of food. I was alittle worried about the questions they may ask me, i suppose really you want to give the right answers but are worried that nothing but babble will come out lol. How has your experience of the band been so far?

Amamda (fuze) you do not look like you have that much weight to lose, we still want to see you lol x

I have NO regrets at all with the band. Even though the weight loss is a bit slower, the advantage of that is that my body is catching up with the loss. I'm 3 stone down and needing another fill which I'm going for on wednesday. All I can say is "Be totally honest" about your eating habits. If you don't tell the surgeon the truth he could decide on the wrong op for you. If you're like me then a band could work but if you like to graze and love the sweet things then the bypass would work better.
Can I ask how much weight you want to lose and what your BMI is? Theses are also taken into consideration when deciding. Good luck.

Hi gaynor, i've got a long way to go, i'm 30st 12lbs and my bmi is something like 67. I am also abit of a grazer x I suppose i'd be happy to be around the 13 stone mark, not sure though it seems such a long way off.
The main reasons is that me and my hubby want to start a family and i'm 32 now so not getting any younger x

Sarah I would advise you to research the bypass. With your high BMI and the amount of weight you want to lose I think this could help you. There are lots of bypassers here on minis that will help you with any questions you have but at the end of the day the final choice is between you and your surgeon. There are also some mini's here who have had the op for the same reason as you, to start a family so you'll be able to get advice on this too. I hope you can research enough to make a choice when you speak with the surgeon. Good luck.

Hi Sarah, i am exactly the same weight and bmi as you, i have just seen one private surgeon and one nhs surgeon, both said to me the bypass was my only real option, as the amount i needed to loose. I am 43 though, so a few years older than yourself. Just be totally honest when answering questions, dont hold back on anything. Good luck on your new journey

hi sarah wellcome to mimminis im having a bypass because the surgon thought that would be the best option and also because i cxxouldnt stand the thought of having to keep going having fills , i like the fact that once its done apart from check ups thats it. best of luck with watever you decide and i hope its a short wate.........kathxxx

Hi Sarah and welcome.

When you go to your initial appointment at Walsall you will see Dr Hartland who will explain the different types of surgery. Be totally honest about your eating habits. THey are not judgemental at all and want to ensure you receive the best surgery to maximise your weight loss.

Good luck hun. Keep posting.

Welcome Sarah!

When my GP and I first spoke about weight loss surgery (wls), she advised the gastric band and sent off for the funding. However, during my first consultation with my surgeon, he advised that due to the amount of weight I have to lose that the bypass is a more appropriate and effective procedure. We did speak about the gastric sleeve which, he said, is used for people with a larger amount of weight to lose. So I guess my advice would be to approach your wls journey with an open mind and be honest with the professionals - they are there to help you not to judge you.
I am now 1 week post-op, almost pain-free and have no regrets just excitement at the start of this new chapter of my life where all things seem possible! The one thing that most of us struggle with is the waiting for funding approvals, appointments and operation dates - so I hope you are a patient patient!
Lots of luck and I hope it all happens quickly for you so that you can start your family.
Lx
