A Huge Step

Well, big strides today. Have made appointment to see GP on Friday to ask for referral for WLS.
Thanks to everyone on here for sharing their experiences. This has really helped me to make my decision.

The first step is always a hard one emotionally, but I'm sure most people would agree that it's never as bad as they thought it was going to be!

good luck dont forget if it helps write down your pointers or issues you want to raise and i cant remember whether ive said this to you already but take a copy of the nice guidelines and those for your pct as several of the drs at my practice didnt hve a clue what i was going on about. Let us know how you get on.

Ditto everything tesmaralda said, and just to add try not to worry too much. I was frantic before my GP appointment but I neednt have worried. Just be prepared to have all the NICE info to hand as not all GP's will be familiar with the criteria.

Im sure Ive asked before but do you come under Birmingham BEN PCT?

I come under Sandwell PCT. I am anxious - in some ways I feel guilty taking up the GPs time if I'm not 'ill' . :sigh:I don't want him to think I'm wasting his time.

When i went to my GP to ask for help with my weight i had not even concidered surgery. I left feeling very dissapointed is some ways as he didnt even give me any pills etc just said he would refere me to WMC so imagine my shock that when i got there 6 weeks later within 2 mins of being with the Dr he said my only option was a bypass.

I totally know what you mean as I felt exactly the same. Ive never been much of a "doctor botherer" and only usually go as a last resort.

At the end of the day though hun, if you dont ask you dont get. You already know that you fulfil the criteria. Dont think of it as asking his permission. Tell him you hvae done your research and fit all the criteria so would like a referral.
