acid reflux

not sure about the quantity but you are put on pills for 6 months after your op if you are having it removed :D

hi i was on lansoprazole pre op and am now on fast tabs.
To be honest dont take them everyday but not had any reflux since op so dont worry sure it will be fine

Hi Karen :)

Nexium make omeprazole and esomeprazole which are both proton pump inhibitors (ppi's) which actually blocks production of acids rather than neutralising them. Pre op I was on 40mg of esomaprazole and when I had the op this week I was changed to the ppi Zoton fast tab 30mg which incidentally taste gorgeous like strawberry popping candy!
Lansoprazole is also a ppi.

I have lifelong digestive probs that I had to take the esomaeprazole for and also have to have my gall bladder removed once I have lost some weight (my surgeon doesnt do the two at the same time).

Dont worry about having probs post op, they really do have it covered. If you do find your refluxing they may jiggle with your dose, but you wont be left to suffer.

Hi Karen

I had my Sleeve on the 3rd Oct and have zoton fast tab lansoprazole to take for the nex 3 months, I think it's common to be put on these.

Good Luck with your opp

I had my gallbladder out last month but I still get acid from time too time, not as much as I used too mind.

Good luck and all the best - MeJulie xx

Blue, are you taking ppi's at all, if not maybe you should mention this to your gp.

Without sounding dense LOL what are ppi's swizzles?? I have tried all over the counter remedies without little success , and will mention this when I go to my docs next, I think I have had it for so long and just learn to cope with it (silly I know) (smacked bottom for me ) But will mention this to my doc and see what they recommend.

Thanks for your input Swizzles, and Looking forward to finding out wot ppi's are

Thanks in advance - MeJulie xx

Hi blue

sorry ppi's are proton pump inhibitors, they stop the production of acid unlike the ones you buy over the counter that try to neutralise it, without much success in many cases!

Lansoprazole, omeprazole, esomeprazole, zoton fast tab are all ppi's. Sometimes you have to be careful they dont contradict other meds you are having, for example I have to take a blood thinner called clopidogrel, and recent research has shown that ppi's reduce the blood thinning properties of the clopidogrel which naturally is a worry for me but I am unable to live an anywhere normal life without taking them so have to weigh up the risks.

If you suffer with acid reflux a lot I would suggest speaking with your doc.

Alternatively there is a prescription only neutraliser which is better than over the counter ones called ranitadine, this doesnt stop acid production but it reduces it instead. It was absolutely useless in my case but it can be quite successful for many depending of the severity of the disease.
