after reading a quick note in karens diary about gall stones it made me wonder if its standard practice for bypass surgery to remove the gall bladder as i know my surgeon does it to all his patience, after i went on lipotrim a few years ago and lost 10st in 6 months i developed gall stones and my god the pain they bring when they play up is horendous but show me a surgeon willing to remove them at the weight i am shaw somers said they were all to chicken http://www.sweetim.com/s.asp?im=gen&ref=10 anyway my point is that when i have my gastric bypass i have already been told he is removing my gall bladder at the same time, has anyone else either that has had the surgery or about to have it been told the same ? i was sent a copy of the letter my surgeon sent my gp and it said on that also they would remove my gall bladder.of course it makes sense as one of the biggest causes of gall stones is rapid weight loss.any thoughts or comments appreciated on this please http://www.sweetim.com/s.asp?im=gen&ref=10

No medical knowledge at all but I have watched alot of the family fat surgeon type programmes and they do always seem to remove it. I think it is a precaution because as you say rapid weight loss can cause gall stones.

Gxx

I've got gallstones:cry:. I've been referred to a surgeon who has refused to operate until I've lost six stone. I'm half way there! The plan is to remove the gall bladder once I'm thin enough. You are right about the pain. I thought I was having a heart attack the first time I had an attack! Women I know who have had the attacks have even told me it ranks with childbirth in terms of pain!!! I figure it must be bad for a woman to concede that a man can experience a comparible pain!:p

hi scazman i agree the pain for me when mine have played up have gone into the childbirth pain scale,i get sick and throw up till its only black stuff coming out and the pain http://www.sweetim.com/s.asp?im=gen&ref=10 is like nothing i have ever experienced.i shall be glad when i have mine out but like you no surgeon would touch me regarding removing the gall bladder until i was accepted for a gastric bypass and he is going to do it for me. http://www.sweetim.com/s.asp?im=gen&ref=10 shaws somers is an angel in disguise xx
