hi guys

how long was it before you tried alcohol? im nearly 4 weeks post opp and have been asked to a party on the 17th, will it be ok to have a little one :party0036:

Call your surgeon and ask him for his advice

my opinion is 4 weeks is too early after a bypass as your body is still getting used to changing through the food stages, your probably not on solids yet, so id say not, i did and i shouldnt of, be careful and look after your bypass x

What a bummer Louise :(

I didn't fancy alcohol at this stage, but if I am honest, I probably would have!

Be very careful though, your tollerance to alcohol will have massively changed, and also it can make you dump.

I don't think it would be sensible yet.

xx

Alcohol doesnt make me dump but does make me twice as tipsy as before - hubby says I am a cheap date now xx (I only stick to wine, nothing fizzy!!)

In my opinion its way too early, take a carton of sugarfree cranberry juice pop it in a wine glass and it looks like a rose!

I had a sleeve done on 21/05/2011.
I'm not sure when to try alcohol? The bariatric nurse said to wait 4-6 months. Does that sound right to any fellow sleevers?

Im bypass and thats what I was advised 6 months,Im going to try a quiet drink at home first and see how I go.We are going to a 50th on the 17th of this month and I will be just on 7 months by then.Think a sleever would be the same.Maz x

I'm a sleeve and now 9 weeks post op. I enjoy a glass of wine of an evening. I sip it and it last me a couple of hours. Tonight I have a can of bitter. It will last a couple of hours, but I don't feel tipsy at all. Shame really!!!

woohoo result :D

I was told at my 6 week check up that there is no reason why I shouldnt have alcohol but just be careful as I would get drunk quicker. I have tried
red wine and was fine but had a touch of the runs afterwards and have also tried vodka with flat diet coke and was fine. I didnt feel drunk quick at all.. I was very careful though and have only tried these as I am going on holiday next week and wanted to find a safe drink should I want a couple while I'm away. The holiday was a spare of the moment decision, I had planned on not drinking for 6 months just because I want to get the most out of my weight loss. I think if you are still on liquids then you should be extra careful and try at home first in case it doesnt agree with you. Good luck x

I was told minimum of two months, but for weightloss' sake leave it six months. I did however try a very small watered down wine. Was very squiffy which was unusual as I could pack it away pre op!

if u dont change ya ways wls wont work, alc is the no1 biggy to change i know, if u cant change how u was then dont bother :( x major changes is needed other wise its a waste of time. dont commit to wls if u still wanna drink, espesh if your a bander x

I'm a sleever and think I waited for at least 6 months. I've never been one to drink alcohol in the house though, so only drink if i go out. I do get tipsy on a small amount, but do notice that i was more likely to dance it off now rather than want to fall a sleep in corner in a night club lol. don't think i'd have risked it at 4 weeks though x

thanks for the advice i think im going to give the party a miss as everyone will be asking why im not drinking and i carnt be botherd explaning that over and over again, i dont remember being given a time scale but do remember them telling me to try it at home 1st as i will be a cheap date from now on haha.

Hi
I'm 3 months p/o on Thursday I've been out twice drinking I asked my surgeon & he said it was fine to but to watch as I may get drunk quicker & it's empty calories. I was so scared I took it easy the first time & I didn't even get tispy on the 4 drinks I had... On sat I was out all day had 3 wines & finished with a pot of tea!! again felt nothing.. I have been out loads & not drank as well & had a great night, can you not do the whole "I'm on antibiotics one" or I need to drive real early the next day.. You can't let the op stop you socialising go forth & enjoy yourself even if you are sober.. Xx

Hiya there x

Its not a case of letting the op stop her socializing .....she is so very early post op and tbh (personally) it would be unwise for her to consume alcohol at this point because it is empty calories. If the lady is in doubt as to what she should do, she can contact her provider and ask them what their guidelines are for drinking alcohol post op so soon after surgery, or perhaps there maybe other people on here that have had the same surgery by the same surgeon that could advise her of what they have been told ( just an idea xx)

Yes that's what I'm saying blue diamond, go out and enjoy yourself even without drinking!
